New Rules: Bristol Whipped

From yesterday’s show… Watch this with the previous post regarding the “beyond vicious” column by Heather Mallick in mind and, if wasn’t already abundantly obvious, I think the monumental phoniness of the “outrage” about the things she said will become crystal clear.

Now, if for some reason, you still don’t get it, chances are you’re a hopeless wanker in any case, but let me explain this to you very, very slowly. What Mallick said is nothing new, nothing startling, and nothing that hasn’t been said by many, many others in many different places and not, I might add, just by the “far left” but also by conservatives… Palin is, as Andrew Sullivan observed “a farce” and “a joke.” Indeed, as he added, “It’s absurd… it should be dismissed out of hand as the most irresponsible act any candidate has ever made.” Oh, and furthermore, I strongly suggest you read this most excellent piece by Tim Wise on “white privilege” as it provides much insight that’s been sorely lacking from certain quarters of the wingnutosphere concerning this issue.

Update: CNews describes the reactions that have been flooding into Fox News from irate “conservatives” across the USA in response to Mallick’s article. Here, for example, a fellow ideological traveler of “The Blogging Tories” wrote: “Those morons up north just can’t keep their ignorant mouths shut when it’s really none of their socialist business … the People’s Republic of Canada is no friend of the USA!” And of course they’ve been directly sending her e-mails too, such as the one from a fellow who wrote: “I’d love to punch you right in your chops and knock every tooth out of your head. Come see me bitch, I have something for you!”

Charming. There’s that “civility” thing again as it’s actually practiced by some of the more extreme elements of the right-wing…

  1. Unrepentant Old Hippie has a post up about the Mallick thing. I think you need to out and look for “Lance on Vancouver Island” and explain to him politely that rolling over and pee’ing on his belly for Bill O’Reilly is really lame.

  2. Urgh. I saw short YouTube clip of BillO slamming the CBC and it reeked of au de Paris Business Review, if you know what I mean.

Maybe “Lance” is from up-island where there are loads of wingnuts, especially around Nanaimo. In fact, they just busted some “compound” up there that was fully stocked with all kinds of military type guns and ammo the other day.

The notion of “civility” in the political blogosphere is, by and large, a quaint linguistic remnant of a ghost era or a principled objective to be pursued at some point beyond the present. Neither camp has the foggiest comprehension of what it entails, let alone being able to spell it. Witness yesterday’s shrill and hypocritical outbursts around the Mallick/Palin soap opera. Excusing the out-and-out naive and stupid, it amazes me that some of the self-proclaimed enlightened ones are so thick between their ears as to their own hypocritical conduct.

The meta-context is that a military coup was inflicted on the peoples of NAmerica on September 11, 2001. The ongoing prattle about which type of political personality, representing supposedly differing political philosophies, will best serve this condition is just that…prattle. The cult of personality and related attacks against those personalities, in both camps, merely abets the illusion of contributing towards a tattered democracy and its principles. Literally, it is the fog of war.

We witness first-hand a clash, on the extremities, of neanderthal Con knuckle-scrapers and redundant Lib wankers and apologists caught in the headlights of both an unwelcome future and a gutted ethos for how to deal with it. Somewhere in the middle are liberals and conservatives, decent, small human beings (a goodly proportion likely trash), who may wish for nothing more than a reasonable and acceptable explanation of why the fabric of their world is unraveling at an alarming rate and why that world is being steam-rolled by a freight train of maniacal entropy. That middle constitutes every general’s and mainstream politician’s worst nightmare: the center will not hold.

The political option of “the lesser of two evils” has quite possibly never been more pronounced, on both sides of the 49th. We have the hillbilly version and the oh-so-slick version. It is a 21st century Prisoners’ Dilemma on steroids.

We make our beds and we get to sleep in them, when maybe what we should be contemplating is burning them.

    A banquet of consequences, indeed.

Every man his own meta-context, and I don’t know about yours, but otherwise that was really good. Your line about civility being a “a principled objective to be pursued at some point beyond the present” should go down as a classic.

  5. *yeesh*

Anyway, that update’s wild. People are sending Heather Mallick death threats and yet another FucksNoise Barbie Doll/harridan enters the fray: Greta Van Susteren calls Heather Mallick a pig.

  6. Susteren calls Heather Mallick a pig.

The horror, pass the smelling salts! Ti-Guy, you can repeat your cons-are-liars meme and remind us how well-informed you are for the ten gazillionth time, but the fact remains you delight in lining up behind offensive, scurrilous bilge and pretending to be shocked when the favour is returned.

Do you fantasize about being in the street battles of Berlin in the early 1930’s?

  7. “Do you fantasize about being in the street battles of Berlin in the early 1930’s?”

when did he ever threaten to smash anyone’s teeth, you fucking fraud?

    KEvron

  8. Why KEvron, I never took you for a right-wing free-speecher. Sounds like something Lemire’s lawyer would say.

  9. you delight in lining up behind offensive, scurrilous bilge and pretending to be shocked when the favour is returned.

We’re talking about FoxNews here, Petey…a “news” network that commands the attention of millions of people over the public airwaves and which has a richly-documented record of horrific disinformation, vilification, propaganda and fraud. So, when Greta Van Susteren cashed in on the celebrity she’s developed there to use her bully-pulpit to denounce a rather isolated Canadian print journalist as a “pig,” then that context makes her remark that much more significant. Millions of people, who are now sending physical threats to her, have never heard of Heather Mallick, and now, thanks to another blond nazi at FoxNews they have. Don’t you think that’s a disturbing development?

I sometimes wonder whether you engage in these deflections purposefully or whether you simply are kind of out-of-touch and well…kind of weird, actually. Almost as if your mind doesn’t work properly. I know the language you wield is insufferably obtuse and devoid of any clarity.

  10. That’s a classic, Ti-Guy. Big, bad American news network commanding “the attention of millions” beats up on poor little isolated CBC journalist. It’s not fair, Mom!! I hereby award you the gold medal for pathetic Canadian whine of the year.

Sorry about the lack of clarity. Let me try again. I think you are out to lunch.

I don’t think that was my argument. More like FoxNews riles up the masses in Hitlerian fashion and the masses engage in a virtual Kristalnacht. So far, at least, it’s only virtual, but you never know. It’s best to be concerned about these things, y’know?

By the way, you really shouldn’t try sarcasm. You reveal just how juvenile you are when you do.
