“Pretend it’s Obama”

During a campaign stop in Monroe, Louisiana, Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum stopped at a shooting range for some target practice. Before aiming for his second target, a woman in the background can be heard to say, “Pretend it’s Obama,” then chuckle at her own amazing wit.

  1. So an obvious joke like that one (in poor taste or not) sends you scurrying to your keyboard to share this important breaking news?

You really are a sad little man.

(but you knew that already, didn’t you?)

  2. This is not indicative of anything RT represents at all. It is indicative of how respect for Western Representative Democracy is dying across North America.

Not only is the joke in poor taste, but anyone seeking to be elected Head of State of the USA should be turning around and chastising the so-called “humourist” for their poor taste and even poorer citizenship.

On a related note, it is occurences like this that further solidify my absolute lolalty to the Crown and the Monarchical principle; everytime you make the Head of State a partisan position, you run the risk of people acting in a partisan manner toward the Head of State. The HoS represents the People, the Community, the Nation. To that end, making it subject to the political dynamic is not only illogical, but extremely unhealthy to the body politic.

  3. Have fun with that Red.

“That’s a very horrible and terrible remark and I’m glad I didn’t hear it,” Santorum told reporters after the event.

  4. Parklife: Glad to hear that Santorum manned up and repudiated the woman’s remarks. That kind of response has been all too rare during this Republican primary season.

  5. ATY: Good point about the politicization of the Head of State and bringing the argument around to a favourable case for constitutional Monarchy and the parliamentary system. Unsurprisingly, I totally concur in this regard. Every day on cable news and in the U.S. papers we see how dysfunctional and, for lack of a better expression, generally fucked up, the Republican model of governance is in practice, especially in the present environment of hyper-partisan discord.

  6. Fred: Speaking of sad little men, have you looked in the mirror today? Seems you scurried to your keyboard with great alacrity to chastise me about this matter…

But to the matter at hand. Ah yes, it was an “obvious joke” – the quotidian response of intellectually depraved wingnuts everywhere for anything reprehensible they say that is hateful, demeaning or otherwise generally loathsome. (And also, not funny. But, as we’ve contended here forever, right-wingers are completely devoid of genuine humour.)

In this case, the remark was said in jest, but seriously… what kind of thoughtless asshole would blurt out something that was, as Santorum rightly described it, so “horrible and terrible”? And what sort of immoral people would gleefully join in laughing at the notion of helping a shooter’s aim by imagining the target was the POTUS?

So, bottom line, the reason I posted it isn’t because it’s “important breaking news” (it’s not and that’s far from the purpose of this particular blog) but simply because it amazed and appalled me as being indicative of a terribly sick and hateful mindset in what’s laughably referred to as our “political discourse” these days.

  7. Heh. That’s precisely why I called her an “asshole” — which, somewhat curiously when you think about it, is a term usually reserved for men.

  8. “dysfunctional and, for lack of a better expression, generally fucked up, the Republican model of governance is in practice”

Hey Asshole. The reason why the USA is in the shitter is not because of the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. It’s because progressive Marxists are running the country.

Carter, Reagen, Bush, Clinton , Nixon, Bush, Obama, Ford, Kennedy, how far do I need to go back?? They are all part of the War Party.

Without the freedom and liberty in the USA Constitution, what would the world look like today?

How many inventions or products do Communists and Marxists bring to the world?

What has socialism done for the world?

Better yet, what has Canadian style Socialism done for humanity?

You are either a citizen or a subject. In a democracy like Canada(one vote every four years) we are clearly only subjects.

You are jealous of the freedom and liberty Americans enjoy.

No other country has a Constitution that lays out what the government CANNOT due to the people.

Tell me this. How is the Canadian system better than the American one?

    Explain that to me, asshole.

  9. hey, i passed on “2 girls, 1 cup”, so i’m not about to sit through a santorum release. heh!
    hi, park!

  10. “Thomas Jefferson” – the treasonous, self-loathing bag of shit –

FUCK OFF and get out of my Country !

    You’re not wanted here.

  11. TJ: Hey Asshole. The reason why the USA is in the shitter is not because of the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. It’s because progressive Marxists are running the country.

Nice salutation. You won me over with your argument at “Hey Asshole.”

Carter, Reagen, Bush, Clinton , Nixon, Bush, Obama, Ford, Kennedy, how far do I need to go back?? They are all part of the War Party.

I’m confused. Are you equating what you refer to here as the “War Party” with “progressive Marxists” in the previous outburst, or what? If your point is simply that all presidents in modern U.S. history have been captives of the “military industrial complex” you won’t get any argument from me.

Without the freedom and liberty in the USA Constitution, what would the world look like today?

Impossible to answer that ridiculous hypothetical.

How many inventions or products do Communists and Marxists bring to the world?

Of course, countries with rigidly centrally-planned economies tend not to be as technologically innovative or inventive as free market economies. That’s part of the reason that capitalism and the free market system is generally regarded as being superior to that of communism. However, what the fuck does that have to do with anything? ATY and I were talking about functional deficiencies in the Republican model of government…NOT arguing in favour of communism or socialism, you retarded twat.

What has socialism done for the world?

Seems you are insanely fixated on the notion that anyone who disagrees with you must be a commie bastard. But to answer your question, while it’s failed miserably when extreme versions of “socialism” (i.e., communism) have been implemented by dictatorial maniacs, there are many forms of what you may call “socialism” that integrate well into the capitalist system and have done great things. In most advanced economies it’s brought universal healthcare, pensions, workers rights and many other measures for the common good that take some of the rougher edges off the laissez-faire capitalism you seem to prefer and help make the lives of ordinary people more sustainable.

Perhaps if you were a little more sophisticated in your thinking rather than just another deranged lunatic on the Internet badly regurgitating right-wing propaganda derived from Fox News, Rush, Sun newspapers or wherever you get your elementary-school bullshit from, you might realize that the world isn’t black and white or as fantastically simplistic as you make it out to be with your silly political labels.

Better yet, what has Canadian style Socialism done for humanity?

It’s given us one of the highest standards of living in the world. You know… for starters. Do I need to go on?

You are either a citizen or a subject. In a democracy like Canada (one vote every four years) we are clearly only subjects.

The timing of federal elections is hardly an intelligent measure of whether one is a “citizen” or a “subject”… By your insane definition, then America (which you evidently heart with a passion) would be – from its inception – a regime where people are mere “subjects”.

Here’s a suggestion: how about you actually THINK before you write!

You are jealous of the freedom and liberty Americans enjoy.

Yeah, tell that to Treyvon Martin. (You may not have heard it reported on Faux News, so go Google his name.)

And no, I am not in any way at all jealous of the “freedom and liberty” that Americans supposedly enjoy. There is no shortage of either of those qualities here in Canada – a country that, unlike you it seems – I happen to love.

No other country has a Constitution that lays out what the government CANNOT due to the people.

First of all, that’s not true; and second, possibly no other country flagrantly violates the tenets of its own Constitution on a more regular basis than the United States.

Tell me this. How is the Canadian system better than the American one?

Well, to give you just one example off the top of my head, our comparatively efficient system enables the government in power to actually pass a workable, clearly defined operating budget on an annual basis. The same cannot be said of America.

    Explain that to me, asshole.

Seeing as you asked so nicely, I just did.

But now here’s a question for YOU: If you HATE Canada so much and have such a raging hard-on for America, why don’t you move down there? Are you just too fucking lazy or unemployable to do so? Hey, I’ve listened to the radio down there for many years and can tell you that there’s plenty of careers for uninformed jackasses and bellicose fuckwits with a loud mouth, so hey… get cracking on your resume there, bub — opportunity awaits!

  12. “generally fucked up, the Republican model of governance is in practice”

hey, YOU guys invented guy fawkes.

    KEvron

  13. KeV: Fawkes and his fellow Catholic conspirators weren’t trying to destroy parliament itself — that just happened to be a convenient place and predictable time to assassinate the King when he would be on site at Westminster for the ceremonial opening of Parliament House.

Contrary to what you might deduce from “V” they weren’t trying to start a revolution or overthrow the system, but merely wanted to kill the Protestant King James I and replace him on the throne with his then 9-year old daughter who presumably would rule as a Catholic monarch or some such nonsense. That’s why, to this day, we (the English, that is; speaking for myself) gleefully burn the Pope (or his treasonous minion) in effigy every November 5th on Bonfire Night.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
    the Gunpowder Treason and Plot…

A penny loaf to feed the Pope
A farthing o’ cheese to choke him.

A pint of beer to rinse it down.
A faggot of sticks to burn him.

Burn him in a tub of tar.
Burn him like a blazing star.

Burn his body from his head.
Then we’ll say ol’ Pope is dead.

Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

    Hip hip hoorah!

  14. “Contrary to what you might deduce from ‘V'”
    how dare you, sir?
you guys had better hope the republic perseveres; there’s only one direction this behemoth will head should it not.

  16. “Yeah, tell that to Treyvon Martin”

Or tell that to the WHITE KID who was lit on FIRE by two BLACK kids for being white at the beginning of Mach.

    http://articles.nydailynews.com/2012-03-04/news/31122324_1_white-boy-fire-tv-station

They called him whitey before lighting him on fire, but Martin don’t care about this little white kid. Do you Martin??

Of course Martin loves Canada. He thinks good govenrment is being able to pass a budget. Individual rights don;t mean fuck all to Martin. He’s a left wing cultural Marxist. Martin believes that government knows best and that all the subjects in Canada better bend over and take the anal rape.

In America, you vote for judges, DA’s, police chiefs, senators, more elections in one year than Canadians have in 25. In Canada, the government gives their close friends the jobs.

I’m a dual citizen of Canada and the USA.

You cannot compare the LIBERTY in Canada to anything in the USA.

In Canada we have speech trials. In the USA we have the Second Amendment.

In Canada we have state sponsored gun control. Brinks guards can defend the states money but a subject of Canada will go to jail for defending himself.

“In Canada, a set of complex rules dictate when and how a person can defend themselves against threats from others. At a trial where self defence is raised, the Crown is required to disprove the defence beyond reasonable doubt,” Mr. Shuster said at the time.”

    Niagara Crown Attorney Tyler Shuste

HOW ARE CANADIANS FREE WHEN THE CROWN ATTORNEY IS OBLIGED TO CHARGE EACH SUBJECT WHENEVER A CASE OF SELF DEFENSE IS RAISED?????

Martin, have you read the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution , and the Bill of Rights? Have you read the Federalist Papers?

If you have, can you compare the American Constitution with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms?

And what about the little white kid lit on fire by tow blacks that look like Obama’s kids??

    You care about whitey?

  17. Ahhhhh …. British Civilisation !

The only Empire to give-up its power & prestige in Defence of Liberty and Humanity – and we did it twice. It meant the end of Empire, but we did it anyway.

In two wars, we stood alone for a total of six years while America watched and bet financially on the outcome …

  18. KEv:

Aenea’s theory of the British Empire is that it fell fron the heavens unwanted and unasked for, but they had to hang onto it to save the world from those damn Yankees.

  19. No. The British Empire (of which Canada was proudly part) could have ignored it’s commercial and financial self-interest and stayed-out of The Great War and the subsequent conflict, but chose to face the hegemon disrupting the global order. Twice.

Between 1914 and 1917 and between 1939 and 1942, the United States watched as the world burned, and planned the financial conditions under which they would extort and dilute British wealth.

Facts – as they say – are facts.

  20. ferfuckssake, aty. can’t a fella exchange some friendly grabass without your balloon knot coming untied?! quit flogging it already, ya’ crotchety old fart.
i bet kids stay away from your lawn….
    KEvron

  21. TJ: You are an insane and tiresome pillock. Quit your incessant bitching about what a horrible place Canada is and go back to the land that you love.

Or tell that to the WHITE KID who was lit on FIRE by two BLACK kids for being white at the beginning of Mach.

You were the one touting America as the land of fabulous unfettered freedom and liberty. Seems all you’ve done is indicate that it’s a land of random violence and scary-ass bad people. Be black, walking down the streets of a gated community wearing a hoody and get shot to death — piss off some black kids and get set on fire.

They called him whitey before lighting him on fire, but Martin don’t care about this little white kid. Do you Martin??

Why would you assume that? Oh right, you’re IMAGINING what I think and projecting it…

Of course Martin loves Canada. He thinks good govenrment is being able to pass a budget. Individual rights don;t mean fuck all to Martin. He’s a left wing cultural Marxist. Martin believes that government knows best and that all the subjects in Canada better bend over and take the anal rape.

Is there some reason you keep invoking my name in your insane rants? It’s not intimidating me.

You asked me for ONE way in which our system of government is better. I provided you with one. In response, you then go all mental and start projecting…

In America, you vote for judges, DA’s, police chiefs, senators, more elections in one year than Canadians have in 25. In Canada, the government gives their close friends the jobs.

If you think the American system of voting for judges, sheriff, dogcatcher, etc. isn’t corrupt, then you’re delusional. The very idea of voting for a judge is beyond ridiculous in my opinion.

I’m a dual citizen of Canada and the USA.

How unfortunate. For you — and us.

You cannot compare the LIBERTY in Canada to anything in the USA.In Canada we have speech trials. In the USA we have the Second Amendment. In Canada we have state sponsored gun control. Brinks guards can defend the states money but a subject of Canada will go to jail for defending himself.

Funny, but I’ve spent most of my life in Canada and have never felt the cruel oppression or lack of LIBERTY that you seem to be suffering from. Goody that you folks have the right to carry guns all over the place and have lots of them in your possession. I never felt the need to have a firearm to “protect” myself.

HOW ARE CANADIANS FREE WHEN THE CROWN ATTORNEY IS OBLIGED TO CHARGE EACH SUBJECT WHENEVER A CASE OF SELF DEFENSE IS RAISED?????

Seems reasonable enough to me in order to determine whether the matter of self-defense is justifiable under the provisions of the Criminal Code.

Martin, have you read the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution , and the Bill of Rights? Have you read the Federalist Papers?

Yes, [anonymous coward using a fake IP#], have YOU?

If you have, can you compare the American Constitution with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms?

Probably, but you seem to have more time on your hands, so why not knock yourself out in that regard.

And what about the little white kid lit on fire by tow blacks that look like Obama’s kids?? You care about whitey?

You mean the one who was attacked for seemingly no good reason in the land of FREEDOM and LIBERTY? I hope he recovers from his burns and that the offenders are suitably punished — which I’m sure they will be.

  22. Mr. Jefferson,
I just wanted to say that it was mighty nice of you to free all those children of the slave you raped.
    Kudos.

  23. (RT, just a reminder to you that just because someone takes a crap in front of you doesn’t mean you have to step in it.)

  24. Turningthecurve: Duly noted. I should exercise more restraint, but it’s a point of principle to combat idiocy when presented with the opportunity. It’s futile, I know… but sometimes I just can’t help myself. 🙂

  25. Oh, that IS one itch that’s hard to ignore. I don’t do a particularly good job at it… but I stay away from trading citations ad nasuem — that is a cyber blackhole to me now. But back to the itch. There is a lot of idiocy out there (out here) and you are one man. Protect your energies. Especially when it comes to those who are actually just pushing your buttons to get a rise out of you and others. Idiocy is sometimes highly manipulative, as we see here with some attention seekers.
