Some readers may recall a post from a little while back featuring Richard Dawkins appearing on MSNBC’s weekend “Up” program where he floated the provocative idea of taking politicians to task for some of their kooky religious beliefs… Well, guess what? It seems that someone did precisely that the other day at one of Mitt Romney’s “town hall” events…
Asked if it’s a sin for a white man to marry and procreate with a black woman, needless to say, being the gutless douchebag he is, Romney reacted to the question as if he’d just been tossed a red hot BBQ charcoal. “No” was his emphatic response before quickly turning to the other side of the crowd for a more scripted inquiry.
But wait, how can that be? Evidently, the God-inspired, yet indisputably racist proclamations of the Mormon religion’s “second prophet” (you know, following the grifter with the magic top hat) are currently null and void. That whole thing Brigham Young declared about “the penalty, under the law of God” as regards to whites conjugating with blacks being “death on the spot”… Well, not so much now, I guess.
I think we may well have a better insight into why Mitt Romney is, as one of his former rivals memorably said, such a “well-lubricated weathervane.” Seems Dawkins may have been onto something here after all when it comes to better understanding a political candidate’s mindset via their religious beliefs.
Sheesh! Who knew?
Extrapolating on Rush Limbaugh’s demeaning 3-day long tirade last week against the female law student who had the audacity to testify recently before Congress about the role of contraceptives in women’s healthcare; on his nationally syndicated radio program, fellow right-wing blowhard Bryan Fischer ludicrously claims that misogyny is an almost exclusive trait of “the Left” (whatever that may be).
More amazingly, he then goes on to equate the attitude of “liberals” and “leftists” with respect to “conservative women” as that of “hardcore Islamists” vis-à-vis ALL women; that is to say, regarding them as sub-human. “Ladies and gentlemen, how they think of women, how they treat women… it’s absolutely disgraceful!”
Even more astounding is that Fischer would adopt without question Limbaugh’s admittedly “absurd” fabrications (you know, that were intended as some sort of Swiftian “joke” for his hyper-sophisticated audience of dittoheads) at face value and reformulate them into an indignant, completely fact-free attack on President Obama:
And to think you have leftist like the President of the United States saying that the parents of the woman who goes on national TV and admits she’s sleeping with so many guys she can’t keep track, doin’ it three times a day, runnin’ out of money, drivin’ me to the poorhouse… He’s saying the parents ought to be proud of that!
There is not a shred of moral decency or the least bit of intellectual honesty in this despicable shithead, but I guess that’s to be expected from someone representing an outfit called the American Family Association. Hey, just stick “Family” into the name of your tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization and it’s an open license to spew all manner of bigotry, misinformation, and hateful propaganda to the public — in this case, on almost 200 radio stations across America — under the guise of promoting “traditional values”… Sadly, this is sort of toxic bilge that passes for “conservatism” in the heartland of America these days.
Muammar Gaddafi’s son spends 22 minutes imploring Al Jazeera’s Anita McNaught and the network’s viewers not to believe their lying eyes when it comes to the popular revolution taking place in Libya…
Ironically, Gaddafi’s PhD thesis at the London School of Economics was entitled The role of civil society in the democratisation of global governance institutions: from ‘soft power’ to collective decision-making? Go figure.
I was so happy that the folks at Countdown decided to include this stellar bit of “performance art” in their grab bag of year-end favourite moments earlier this week. Even after countless viewings, the ferociously impassioned (albeit wildly unhinged) oratory of Republican hopeful Phil Davison vying last September for a minor political office in Ohio still has all the riveting power of an spectacular train wreck.
Apparently, Davison was completely shocked by the reaction to this video taken by a local reporter at the event after it hit the Huffigton Post and then quickly went viral on the Internets. Described by those who know him as a generally “quiet” and “introverted” person, it seems this was his earnest notion of how a rousing political stump speech is meant to be delivered.
If ever there was a modern poster boy for the proverbial “Ugly American” it’s so-called “comedian” Bob Thompson; a fat, sweaty, perpetually angry white man who loudly hyperventilates on YouTube every few days from his concrete bunker with obnoxious, in-your-face rants about topical events — all of which seem to piss him off to the point where his head is just about to explode.
The sad part about Bob’s performance art (if one can generously describe it as such) is that a good number of online sociopaths actually seem to take him quite seriously. Invariably, there will be comments on his posts to the effect that he’s plainly speaking “the truth” or that his hysterical ravings somehow accurately reflect the inner sentiments of his viewers. Take for example this comment from “MrSTANDFORAMERICA” about relief for victims of the earthquake in Haiti:
Don’t no one send a penny to Haiti. Hell don’t even land a plane on the ground. But just air drop everything. Water for 1 year, food for 6 months, and a shit load of FEMA coffins. Throw in some rakes, shovels and hoes for clean up. And in 1 year, if they haven’t cleaned everything up. Go in and finish what the earthquake started. And rid the earth of these useless and worthless people.
It’s hard not to be completely aghast at the cruel insensitivity of such a remark And yet, this sort of callous, morally depraved rubbish freely abounds on the Internet. Most likely it was always the case, but now the brilliant innovations of “social media” affords us a more open view into the dark hearts and tormented souls of our fellow humans as never before.
Hmmm. Not likely going to see much coverage of this protest event in the so-called “non-fringe media” are we?
So why wasn’t that insufferable little douche Griff Jenkins and his producer out there helping to rally the crowd? Where was Glenn Beck and the rest of the Fox crew covering the event? I mean Fox News is purportedly “fair and balanced” right? But no… when we check Rupe’s website what do we get? Well, we can learn about the dangers of an H1N1 shot, that some woman died in a sweat lodge, or that there’s a bleak employment picture… or better yet: “Man Who Held Woman in Casket Faces Life in Prison.” I don’t even want to know…
I give up trying to figure this shit out for the time being. It’s just altogether too crazy-making… Need to take a break from the insanity for several days and hunker down with some work projects. If you want to hit the tip jar in the meantime with some coin, that would be more than nice, very much appreciated and, sad to say, not entirely unneeded at the moment.
p.s. I’m sure there is a pile of potential jokes associated with the notion of pitting LGBTs against teabaggers, but it may be better not to visit that particular realm of comical possibilities.
Frank Schaeffer discusses the lunacy of right-wing evangelical Christians. A recent poll disclosed that 1/3 “conservatives” believe that President Obama is the “anti-Christ”…
“A village cannot reorganize village life to suit the village idiot — it’s as simple as that.”
