Fox & Fiends

Generally reviled former Vice-President Dick Cheney hit the “curvy couch” of Fox’s most unctuous right-wing sycophants this morning to promote his new book, In My Imagination

Unsurprisingly, Cheney believes it imperative for the U.S. government to continue wasting a TRILLION dollars per year on the military, preferring instead to tackle the country’s troubling deficit problems by slashing entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare. This from a man who when in office, cavalierly told former Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill, that “deficits don’t matter.”

  1. Imagine the fate that might befall Cheney if he admitted the error of his murderous ways and repented. The mob would be out for him with burning torches and pitchforks. I’m sure this atrophied old dick feels utterly driven to defend his past by working to perpetuate it.

  2. I don’t believe that admitting fault of any kind, let alone engaging in reflective self-recrimination, is in the nature of arrogant pricks like Dick Cheney.

  3. Cheney not only said that “Reagan proved that deficits don’t matter”, but he also voted and pushed for a reduction in the military budget after the fall of communist Russia, back when he was in Congress. I believe there is a clip of him making statements to this effect that were circulating on the internet during the Bush-Kerry election.

  4. Here’s one of the clips (from 1987 when he was Sec of Defence):

I know I saw another one of him floating around at some point talking about the reduced need for an expensive military after the fall of the Soviet Union.

  5. Not to change the topic too much, but since Fox News is the paragon of “balanced media” these days, it seems the flying monkeys have descended upon one article that is suggesting to abolish the CBC. How nice was it for the authour to admonish Prime Minister Bennett. Remember, he wasn’t true Neo-liberal Conservative.
