Obama Trumps the Birthers

Today’s release by the White House of President Obama’s “long form” birth certificate likely still won’t satisfy some of the diehard loons, crackpot conspiracy theorists and racist haters that apparently inhabit the Republican party in surprisingly large numbers, but amongst the majority of relatively sane people, the “controversy” over Obama’s birth certificate should now finally be put to rest.

The funny thing is that Karl Rove may quite probably have been correct. Virtually alone amongst right-wing pundits, he has long been pleading with Republicans to drop the issue, insisting that they were being drawn into a trap to discredit them – a “roach motel” as Chris Matthews put it so well. If indeed that’s the case, the strategy worked brilliantly.

Queen of the Birthers Update:
After refusing to talk about the birth certificate she’s been demanding for the past three years and instead launches into a new line of attack, Larry kicks fanatical lunatic Orly Taitz off his show.

  1. Do such idiots really believe that you could run for President without providing proof-of-birth and residency ?

Listen, I revile much about the USA, but even I have faith that their Electoral Commissions verify compliance to Article 2, Clause 5 of the United States Constitution.

  2. Obama hasn’t “trumped” anyone. He’s done the opposite, in fact, by responding to (and thus implicitly conceding the legitimacy of) a tiny, schizoid segment of the American loony right that merits only contemptuous indifference. It’s hard to think of a precedent for this kind of presidential self-abasement. Even Carter never felt the need to compromise himself this abjectly to address the GOP jihadis who hated him. Imagine if Reagan had been forced to release copies of his date-book, Rolodex files, and phone records in order to debunk crack-pot claims that he was a key agent in a Masonic plot to gain world domination, and you get some sense of how humiliating this is for Obama and for his country.

I think what we’re seeing here is a further erosion of the dignity of an office most Americans once thought untouchable (and quite literally unimpeachable), in a process I naively thought had found its rock bottom during Dubya’s risible reign.

  3. SF: Not that I disagree with most of your conclusions, but the plug needed to be pulled on this ridiculous “controversy” as it was beginning to spin out of control… Far from being a fear confined to a small segment of the loony right, doubts about Obama’s place of birth was shared by a large segment of voters.

  4. The GOP is like the “Chicken Littles” always saying that the “Sky is Falling”, like the same ones that were the “Chicken Hawks” (“W” Wars), big talk no courage.

The United States, favors creativity wherever it can be found. We’re apostles of prosperity and defenders of the free exchange of ideas and when more people in more countries are free to rise, to invent, to communicate, to dissent, it’s not the doom of United States leadership, its the triumph of the American way.

Generations have worked hard and sacrificed much for the country to reach this point (individuals and our unions!), and with further hard work and sacrifice (along with our relentless self-doubt) the United States will rise again, we do not tire and we are coming back, no matter what Fox news and their GOP “Chicken Littles” lackies keep saying about our nation. Never Bet Against the United States!

Our current President travelled under a USA passport long before he was elected President, but I guess the quacky BIRTHERS, must believe that the USCIS – United States Passport was in on the lie, please, grow up, you are wrong! Remember when some contractors were busted during the “George W. Bush” administration for looking at our current President passport file (how quick you forget).

The Birthers just HATE and can’t debate!
Have any of the quacky BIRTHERS presented any credible proof that will standup in court? Answer: No
Have any of the quacky BIRTHERS won any Court Cases? Answer: No
They are just mainly backward, uneducated, white people who HATE our half African American President.

The majority of the voting public ask “where the proof”, show some proof BIRTHERS or the voting majority will continue to see you as dumb, stupid or racist, maybe all three. Can you blame them?

Still, I really hope one of these retreads and blowhards runs for president, not because they have a chance of winning but because I like to see the train wreck that they will cause.

  5. Mr. Obama did very well i hope now Donald Trump will calm up i think this matter will ends with this action (Release of Obama’s birth certificate).

  6. I first heard about the birth certificate controversy about 2 1/2 years ago on Coast to Coast AM. It was an interesting conspiracy theory–what if Obama really wasn’t born in the United States?

Then the Obama campaign released a shortened electronic version of the BC. It looked a bit low-rent and photoshopped, but perhaps that’s how all the Hawaii BCs look like. The birthers then went on to say that wasn’t good enough–that the long form BC was needed to quell the controversy.

George Noory (of Coast to Coast AM) then decided to pull the plug on birther guests on his show announcing that while there was a possibility that Obama could have been born outside the US, that he was duly elected and that he should be given the benefit of the doubt until more credible evidence regarding his birth comes to light.

Shortly after, the birth announcement from a Hawaii newspaper announcing the birth of Barack Obama in 1961 was found. I think this should have completely shut the controversy down. The earlier BC might have been a forgery, but how do you create one from a newspaper printed almost 50 years earlier?

This wasn’t revived until Donald Trump came along. It was fun discussing his prospects running for President (the hilarious Lewis Black on The Daily Show was quite amusing) and him actually doubling down on and owning up to the birther position.

But looking at the latest version of the BC that was released, it probably is real, but the way it was scanned with layering and OCR enabled, it kind of looks like a cheap Photoshop knock-off, which was probably intentional in order to drive up the birther froth.

Just to clarify: I’m not a birther. But I recognize that Obama is quite cynical by being so coy in putting out BCs that look a bit “off”. The birther controversy does not help the Republicans at all. Mitt Romney will probably at some point have to forcefully tell the birthers to go fuck themselves, to put it succinctly. Obama is beatable — just look at how many seats the Repubs gained in ’10. But embracing birther politics is suicide.

Reason why Obama took 2 years to release the “long form” BC? Well, he has a much better chance of running against a Republican candidate who tried to cater to the birthers and who would need to explain himself to the general electorate afterwards. Obama (D) VS Captain McBirther (R) ? That’s the American equivalent of the Liberals putting in crazy firebrand Hedy Fry as their leader only to get slaughtered by the Conservatives in a federal election.

  7. The post-release spin is absolutely hilarious. I just heard Ann Coulter claiming that the “birther” movement was all the work of liberals and no conservatives subscribed to it. I think that very clearly sums up how delusional and utterly divorced from reality some folks on the right are.

  8. Well, I never really subscribed to it. And to Coulter’s credit, I recall that she was never a birther. I thought that the birther thing was an amusing distraction but Trump breathed whole new life into it. He quickly dropped it and now is claiming credit for getting BHO to put out the long form out there for all to see.

Just take a look at this video where someone provides some debunking of the latest birth certificate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KDmenTH818&feature=player_embedded#at=176

I don’t use “Adobe Illustrator” enough to verify this person’s claims. But it seems to me that Obama put out a weird-looking document… perhaps the techie just scanned it improperly.

Regardless, the newspaper birth announcement should have been good enough to shut down the birther movement to the fringes. If Obama the “Kenyan-born Marxist” offends people so much, he should be considered the desirable candidate to run against anyway. Obama certainly was a liability for the Democrats in the 2010 House elections.

  9. Birth Certificates from Hawaii – which only became a State in 1959 – five decades ago would likely be fairly crude and rudimentary compared to those issued today. C’mon people! It was fifty years ago!

  10. I found a much-better looking scan of the BC:

The one put on the White House website obviously was modified to add a green pattern of sorts. So the image I posted the link to should satisfy the birthers now.

    Case closed.

  11. big fucking mistake giving in to the birfers. should have left them at step one, making feckless demands and hollow threats. now they’re going on about how it’s a forgery.

the birfer movement is the biggest irl troll of all time. never take anything a troll says at face value; he’s always got another red herring up his obdurate sleeve.

  12. I feel sorry for all the little Birthers, It’s not their fault; it’s your families’ fault that taught you that you were better than other people based on race, creed ethnicity, color, nationality or sex, in short they engrained in you their hate (what a legacy).

But you know at some point you need to grow up and act like an adult and think for yourself and distinguish what is true and what is BS.

But there is where the little Birthers find yourself because we all know it was never about a birth certificate or grades, because we all know you want to go around wearing white sheets, burn crosses and hang people who are not like you, we know that your growth is stunted in your hate, and hate is what this is all about, you will never win anymore, and I feel sorry for all of you. I can only imagine when our President is re-elected what you phonies will lie about next. Oh, and just know, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and sounds like a duck, it’s a duck, the little Birthers are a bunch of racists!
