Immigration Clandestine!

Voila! The latest classy attack ad from The Harper Government® (or is it the Conservative Party? Whatever… same difference these days, apparently) aimed at the Quebec “market” accusing Ignatieff and Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe – without even so much as a shred of out-of-context “proof” – of being opposed to tougher penalties for smugglers of illegal immigrants and wanting to transform the country’s border into… a leaky sieve!

Now you don’t possibly think that the Conservateur could be cynically pandering to the more xenophobic elements of their rural “base” in Quebec, do you? Perish the thought!

  1. Ah yes. Another day, another Harper-inspired new low in Canadian politics.

From the reeking frog spoor who gave you “Does Paul Martin Support Child Pornography?”, we now get the first time a Canadian party has used immigration as an electoral (albeit pre-writ) wedge issue. If he’d only added a lurid tale of a pure laine housewife ravished by an illegal Tamil, Harper would have given the nation its very own Willie Horton moment. Maybe next time.

If you don’t like the ad, vote the Conservatives out. Oh yeah, you can’t vote them out if you don’t show up for the vote can you? Besides, Ignatieff will yet again flip flop and won’t bring the government down . . . again. No wonder his numbers are in the toilet.

  3. …vote the Conservatives out.

I do not want to vote the “Conservatives” out. I want to see them swallowed by the massive maws of a sleuth of famished polar bears and watch the metabolically useless portion of the meal (about 95% of it) get diarrheically spewed from the beasts’ evacuatory tracts.

As a consequence of electoral failure that would certainly result in a new dynamism in the Canadian political scene.

Ah Prairie Kid… life is much better if you are less… bitter.

  6. Prairie Kid: Interestingly, you never addresses the vile and misleading nature of the ad. But then, why would you? Partisans never criticize their “team”… it’s all about winning and power… Us v. Them. Politics at its worst and most tragically dumbest level.

I would have to see who the candidates on offer in this riding are before I decide how I’m going to vote – which I always do, btw.

These ads are appalling especially that they are appearing outside the writ. There is also the ongoing onslaught of taxpayer funded partisan ads. It is utterly disgusting. I truly wish that the Harpies would self-destruct and the old Progressive Conservative party would arise from the ashes like a phoenix. I have never, and will never vote for these anti-democratic thugs.

  8. I think a lot of us are quite nostalgic for the old Progressive Conservative Party and the values that it represented.

  9. But, of course, the old PC party was handing majorities to a worse party, over and over again.
