Late Night with Oi Polloi

British punk band Oi Polloi at the Katacombs in Montreal last week with a couple of songs dedicated to Stephen Harper. Talk about playing to the crowd…

Heh! Hopefully they have been booked for one of the Prorogue rallies on the weekend.

…with Warren Kinsella’s punk band ‘Shit from Hell’ as the opening act? 🙂

  4. I guess that’s one way for a mediocre punk band to get a crowd response.

“I guess that’s one way for a mediocre punk band to get a crowd response.”

    That about sums it up.

I guess Twatsy and Drake were expecting American idol.

  7. No, I’m just saying that as far as political punk-ish rock goes, they can’t all be Closet Monster. Or Comeback Kid. Or even Green Day.

(I figured I’d throw in a band you’d actually heard of so you don’t feel square.)

Getting a little esoteric, are we? The reason why Comeback Kid is not as heard of is because they are an average hardcore punk band. That is not to say they are good; they are in my music library, but I wouldn’t use them as a measure for anything, especially since they sound just like any other hardcore punk band out there. Btw, you might be pleased to know that Closet Monster is reuniting.

No, the reason Comeback Kid isn’t widely known is because they aren’t radio-friendly. Far, far too intense for the radio.

“False Idols Fall” is the mad note.

As for esoteric? Doesn’t that seem like reaching? Not to be rude.

I’m delighted to see Closet Monster is getting back together (I actually hadn’t heard — so thank you). But if they do another song whining “you’ll never know what it’s like to feel the hurt”, I’ll be a little disappointed.

(That one was far, far too emo for me.)
