Coulter Untethered

It’s truly astounding the number of completely absurd and or patently false assertions Ann Coulter can make within the space of four minutes…

My favourite one here is her claim that in Iran “they’re all begging the U.S. to invade them.” How so many our friends on the Right can take this woman seriously never ceases to amaze me.

I didn’t hear her make many statementes of fact at all actually. It was mostly opinion.

The comment about the Iranian people wanting the US to invade is overstating, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that a sizable portion of the population would like a government change.

I don’t think they’d want the US to do it for them, but the fraudulent election that went on recently wasn’t to their satisfaction either. They likely just want a democratic solution within their own borders.

There is lots of Coulter quotes to rip apart, but she didn’t say much here that was way off base.

    Blond American nazi harridan. Dime-a-dozen.

She claims that in Afghanistan “the populace is basically Al Queda.” Sounds way off base to me.

  4. Does anyone even care about Coulter anymore?

    What is this, 2004?

  5. Coulter’s not stupid – she’s off the wall all the way to the bank.

The audience laughed in agreement but I get the feeling that once back in her hotel room she herself laughs herself sick.

  7. ATY — I wish she could be dismissed as an irrelevant clown, but sadly there are many right-wingers who still take on board much of her wild rhetoric and crazed opinions with gusto.

“Does anyone even care about Coulter anymore?”

    No kidding.

~RT, is there some reason why you have been ignoring some pretty pertinent Canadian</em political stories of late? I don't know, like maybe
    this
    one. Or perhaps
    this
one. Or maybe THIS! Do you have a soft spot for former Red Tories or what? I sincerely hope it is not a distaste for Afghan scumbags that prevents you from commenting on what appears to be a rather large deal. What’s the story morning glory?

As Ti-Guy would say, “Fucking tags”!

My favorite Ann Coulter moment was telling Bob McKeown that Canadian Forces fought on the US side in Vietnam. http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/sticksandstones_multimedia2.html

  12. TS — That’s a classic, for sure. And of course there was never any admission that she was wrong. God forbid!

  13. SF — Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

Omar — I’d be happy to fire up an open thread for discussion of such things, but I simply don’t have the time or inclination at the moment to delve into all “pertinent Canadian stories of late”…

And, to be quite honest, I find the focus of attack on the government at the moment (Torture!) to be extremely boring.

  14. Well, give her this much: she knows how to generate controversy. That’s gotta count for something – if she ever quits the pundit game, she could probably do well working on some campaign or other…

Why should it count for something? Generating “controversy” is as easy as falling off a log. Growing up and gaining experience is the process through which you learn to distinguish between real, substantive controversy and pointless strife.

  16. It’s a good thing when you’re in the kind of business that Ann Coulter is in, though, isn’t it?

After all, the more people that know her name…

    Uh huh.
