High Noon on Capitol Hill

Michele “Crazy Eyes” Bachmann and the advocacy group Americans for Prosperity have called on “freedom loving” protesters to “scare” members of Congress into killing the proposed health care reform bill.

“I think that will absolutely scare these members of Congress so much that Pelosi will not get the votes and it will kill the bill. I think it could be dead for 10 years. Why won’t we? Why won’t we go for broke?”

So this is it… the final showdown at high noon.

“Don’t bring your pitchforks,” Bachmann said, “bring your video cameras.”

Should be interesting.

Update: “A bunch of angry white people are yelling at members of Congress right now — both for and against healthcare reform. It’s a good thing the Capitol complex has tunnels underneath it so members can avoid these filthy common people.” Heh.

How can you watch that woman and not think about cutting yourself? 😉

There are meds to help with that. I’m sure Aurelia can point you in the right direction.

I’m sure Michele Bachmann’s children can point me in the right direction.

  4. Look what happened to pro-healthcare reform activists from Connecticut who showed up at Holy Joe’s office to see the “whites of his eyes”…

That would never have happened if a few of them has looked like a crazy, geriatric teabagger about to go off like a bomb. As it stands, they’ve couldn’t have sounded less menacing if they had tried.

I really don’t like these milquetoast American liberals, whining and puling plaintively all the time. They need to put some bass into their voices.

  6. I think they’ve been cowed into an extreme form of civility for fear of being branded as “angry radicals” or “loons” and marginalized accordingly…

    “puling plaintively”… Heh. Nice one.

The media and above all, the Democratic Party itself, has been very good at removing, not just righteous anger, but any sign of passion from public discussion of liberal/left issues.

You always have to let your adversaries know that although you are more than capable of conducting a civil, adult discussion, you are also capable of tearing them to bits if required. And that doesn’t require anger or acting out or behaving badly as much as assertiveness and forcefulness and the kind of devious smile that lets people know you love nothing more than a good scrap.

  8. There’s no question that, generally speaking, organizations on the far-right have been a lot more effective in mobilizing people at the grassroots level…

These cynical outfits are terribly good at channeling the fears of average people and bundling their seething rage into ways that are useful for advancing a corporate agenda that actually works against their self-interest by masquerading it under the rousing sentiments of “freedom” and cloaking it in the patriotic mantle of the Constitution (which almost nobody has actually read or fully understood).

  9. I think that will absolutely scare these members of Congress so much that Pelosi will not get the votes and it will kill the bill. I think it could be dead for 10 years.

    Q. What is represented by the words “scare”, “kill”, and “dead” when used to arouse an angry mob scene on Capitol Hill immediately after suffering through a summer of hysterical town-halls attended by Glock-toting crack-pots?

    A. A fascinating method of discharging one’s Congressional responsibilities in a nation with a healthy tradition of political assassination.

  10. SF — I suspect that Bachmann and her tea-baggin’ supporters would be quite pleased if Obama was knocked off by a “freedom loving” assailant. Of course, they’d never admit that…
