Real Time: New Rules

“Liberals must launch our plan for socialist domination immediately. Listen closely comrades. I’ve received word from General Soros and our partners in the U.N., ‘Operation Streisand’ is a go. Markos Moulitsas, you and your DailyKos controlled army of gay Mexican day-laborers will join forces with Michael Moore’s Prius tank division north of Branson, where you will seize the guns of everyone who doesn’t blame America first, forcing them into the FEMA concentration camps; that’s where ACORN and I will re-educate them as atheists and declare victory in the War on Christmas!”

Aside from that, the theme of this week’s rant was mankind’s boundless ability to foul our own nest, examples being the orbiting space debris now threatening to destroy our satellites and that island of non-biodegradable waste floating in the Pacific Ocean that’s estimated to be larger than the state of Texas.

  1. You know, I insisted a few friends of mine, who are not really interested in American politics or culture, watch this show the other day.

    They thought it was boring.

  2. It was the episode with Christopher Hitchens, Salman Rushdie and Mos Def. Mos Def kept interrupting everyone with his obnoxious blither.

  3. Can’t say I blame them then. That show was just awful. Mos Def… Excuse me, but who cares?

Real Time is a “swing and a miss” kind of affair and the panelists can be a real mixed bag of nuts. Sometimes it works, but other shows completely suck. Same deal with the old Politically Incorrect program that was sometimes amusing, once in a while provocative, but largely aggravating and, yes, even… boring.

  4. I understand.

I don’t watch the show (I don’t watch much teevee)…I don’t even have HBO. But my friends did and when I insisted they watch it, well, that was the episode.

  5. I can’t stand Mos Def, he ruined that episode. I felt embarrassed just watching it.

I dunno, most times I watch this show, I just wanna scream at them, and wish I was on the panel. Such as when Frum was saying “It’s absurd to say [acting to fix climate change] will help the economy” I was thinking “Stern Report, Jesus Tittyfucking Christ! 3% or 25%, you stupid fucking cracker!”

And seriously, Joe the Plumber? I get it, Maher was trying to sucker him into embarassment, but the sad fact is that Maher is a libertarian, and since when has a libertarian ever accomplished anything?

Cue Mike to talk about the Ron Paul Revolution (but not the one against the nigger-instigated racewar) in 3… 2… 1…

  6. I thought about posting that bit with Joe the Plumber, but it was just too painfully dumb for words. Do we really need to have our collective intelligence be insulted to infinity that way?

You’re absolutely right about it being a shameful attempt to “sucker him into embarrassment”… Which is kind of a pointlessly redundant exercise when you think about it.

As for the libertarian thing, I’d like Mike to answer my question from the other day about whether Austrian School economic theory has ever been employed in the real world and whether there’s any modern-era example of libertarian governance we might be able to draw lessons from…

  7. The only Bill Maher I catch is what our host provides.

    You are my filter.

    Probably explains my ignorance…

But anyway, this one was quite educational. I didn’t know about the Gay Army of Mexican migrant workers (GAMEX?).

    I must advise Haliburton & Bechtel immediately…
