The Job Meme

It seems that I’ve been tagged by Lulu with the following meme:

It’s simple. Just list all the jobs you’ve had in your life, in order. Don’t bust your brain: no durations or details are necessary, and feel free to omit anything that you feel might tend to incriminate you. I’m just curious. And when you’re done, tag another five bloggers you’re curious about.

Okay, here we go:

1974-76: Janitor/Office Cleaner — Victoria Property Management
1976-77: Dishwasher — The Princess Mary Restaurant
1978: “Houseman” (Hotel Laundry Worker) — Harbour Towers Hotel
1978-79: Waiter — Paul’s Restaurant
1979-80: Hotel Porter/Night Audit Clerk — Laurel Point Inn
1980-81: Government Assistant/Clerk I — Province of B.C.
1981-82: Student — University Academy of Fine Arts
1982: Unemployed Bum/Artist — Govt. of Canada
1982: Geophone Stringer — Ranger Exploration
1982: Stock Taker — Hudson Bay Company
1982-86: Brokerage Clerk — Anderson-Smythe Customs Brokers Ltd.
1985-86: Front-Desk Clerk (Weekends) — Highlander Motor Inn
1984-86: Sales Clerk (Evenings) — Manhattan Art Gallery
1987: Brokerage Clerk — Mid West Customs Brokers Ltd.
1988-1989: Airport Office Manager — Mid West Customs Brokers Ltd.
1990: Drawback/Refunds Manager — Mid West Customs Brokers Ltd.
1990-91: Brokerage Clerk — Victoria Customs Brokers Ltd.
1991: Regional Manager — MSAS Cargo International Inc.
1991-93: Branch Manager (Calgary)— Midwest Higinbotham Ltd.
1994-95: Director of Consulting — Midwest Higinbotham Ltd.
1996-99: Marketing Director — Russell A. Farrow Limited
1999-01: Marketing Services Manager — Livingston International Inc.
2001- Present: Self-Employed graphic design/marketing services

Kind of pedestrian to say the least. As for five other people, I won’t annoy anyone with this, but it’s sort of an interesting exercise to go through. I’ve been meaning to update me resumé one of these days anyhow.

Tags I’d make if I was going to do that: Here, here, here, here and here.

Update: Stageleft has been good enough to compile a round up of links to sites that posted on this meme.

Pink Floyd: A Xmas Song

I know… there’s something that doesn’t sound right about that. But still, here it is: a bone fide Pink Floyd Xmas song, courtesy of Nick Mason messing about on piano and vocals.

It sounds quite a lot like a parody of Syd Barrett to me.

Nazi Pope Angers Gay Groups

Hmmm. Curious how the introduction of a single word can completely skew a headline… Anyway, it seems that Cardinal Ratzinger the Daft, aka Pope Benedict XVI, in his boundlessly infallible wisdom, has solemnly declared that the tireless mission of defending humanity against the ruinous evils of homosexuality is every bit as important as saving… the rainforests.

What a lovely, heart-warming Christmas message.

I Believe in Father Christmas

U2’s cover of the Greg Lake (ELP) ironical holiday classic…

I wish you a hopeful Christmas
I wish you a brave New Year
All anguish pain and sadness
Leave your heart and let your road be clear…

And so on.

p.s. In case you didn’t know, Prokofiev rules.) And speaking of which, why is it that Russian composers seem to capture the most quintessential aspects of our holiday seasons? July the 4th is, after all, quite often celebrated to the rambunctious strains of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Op. 49 for some strange reason. Quite funny that.

Update: If you prefer the original, here’s Greg Lake from 1974.
