Feel the Love

I ask you… given the current tensions over Prop. 8 amongst the gay community, how fantastically stupid (or deliberately provocative) do you have to be to venture down to the Castro attempting to “convert” gays — to Christ, and presumably, straightness?

Good grief, what a bunch of assholes. Hmmm. Maybe not the best choice of epithets there… Oh well.

p.s. And yes, of course, we know the Christianists have First Amendment rights and that the “intolerance” — and most especially the outbursts of violence — aren’t helpful… But still, it just seems like throwing gasoline on a fire to me.

The Spirit of Christmas

Because nothing celebrates the birth of Baby Jesus like a festively decorated tank! Sort of adds a whole new meaning to the “War on Christmas” doesn’t it?

What Were They Thinking Dept.

How Things Have Changed…

I’m sure we’ll be hearing blood-curdling howls of outrage from the Chickenhawk Brigade and über “patriotic” Brown Red Shirts of “The Blogging Tories” at this latest development from Afghanistan as reported in this morning’s NYT:

Afghanistan’s president, Hamid Karzai, said Sunday that he would guarantee the safety of the Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar if Mr. Omar agreed to negotiate for a peaceful settlement of the worsening conflict in the country.

Mr. Omar, a fugitive with a $10 million American bounty on his head, has been in hiding since the Taliban were toppled from power in 2001, and is believed by Western intelligence agencies to be living somewhere in the region of Quetta in western Pakistan.

Yep, that outrage should be starting right about… never.

Update: Makes you feel just that much better about forking over $2 billion for replacement armoured vehicles, doesn’t it?

Update2: A timely report from Al Jazeera on the deteriorating situation in Kandahar.
