Hey, Big Spender

Sarah Palin may not know what the Vice-President does, but gosh darn it, the Republicans have been breaking the bank making her look absolutely fabulous trying to become one!

A $75,000 shopping spree at Neiman Marcus? I’m sure that “Joe the Plumber” can relate to that, huh? And $4,716.49 on hair and makeup in the month of September! Didn’t the wingnuts blow a gasket about John Edwards’ $400 haircut? What a laughable bunch of hypocrites.

  1. Seems they spent another $149,000 on her at some other store as well. Can’t remember which.

    Unbelievable – such a crock.

  2. All that money and she looks the same. I’ve only seen her in 3 or 4 outfits on TV – her hair looks like something out of the 80’s and far too much makeup, but then, Cindy McCain in spite of all her wealth looks like a cupie doll.

I think the other store was Goldman Sachs.

  3. You mean Sachs Fifth Avenue, surely?

Only in America can you spend like a millionaire and still end up looking like you shop at Reitmans. Nancy Reagan always looked horrible in the costumes they dressed her up in, and Hilary’s pants suits make me puke, but I suppose anything else would appear too elitist despite the fact that the clothes still cost thousands and thousands of dollars.

By comparison, Michelle Obama buys a dress for 150.00 and looks great in it.

  4. Sorry – I didn’t proof read (bad habit)…now I feel foolish……yes, it was Saks Fifth Ave.

    Need my morning coffee.

I think Michelle Obama is elegant and natural.

  5. With all the money they spent on Eliza Doolittle…er..Sarah couldn’t they have spent another $100 and gotten her a hair cut?

I think Michelle Obama has the same sense of style as Jackie O.

  6. Rural Sandi, the Obama campaign doesn’t have to disclose what is spent on clothes, makeup and hair, so for all we know some of that $150 million went to making her look like she only spent $150, and yet really spent as much if not more.

Like the clothes for the Obama kids? Those are designer dresses and clothes and for massively lit TV appearances and rallies, I’m betting they even did the kids hair and makeup so they would look normal on TV.

Same for all the Palin kids. I mean think about it, they all usually wear jeans and tees. Maybe one so-so good outfit for church. Then this hits! I’m sure the entire family plus the fiance had to be done up and dressed for multiple appearances.

Could she look better for that much money? Sure, but maybe they didn’t want to make too much of a drastic change at once?

Then there’s the problem with TV lights and cameras. They were never meant for human skin. Everyone, male female, white or black HAS to wear makeup and the more professionally done, the better. Otherwise, you end up looking like Nixon.

  7. I’ve no doubt the Obamas have spent a good deal of money on their appearance, but the 150.00 dress is a a fact.

As usual with right wingers, it’s the disconnect between stated values (homespun wisdom, frugality, moderation, authenticity) and reality.

  8. That’s interesting, because I actually have thought in the past that that’s the one item of hers I can’t stand. LOL! I like some of the other outfits.

Anyway, I’m not saying 150K is okay to spend, merely that we have no context for what the Obama-Biden campaign spent. How do we know that most of the 150K wasn’t spent on McCain’s suits and $500 shoes? Or maybe the makeup and hairdresser were staff that did everyone up?

  9. Speaking of hypocrites; this just in..

Husky Energy fell $1.98 to $33.34 despite nearly doubling its third-quarter profit to $1.27 billion thanks to record summer oil prices.

Those poor poor oil companies. They weren’t gouging ..nooooo! Just trying to make an honest buck, what’s wrong with that? eh? Oh yes, and December crude contracts just dropped to $68.75 US.

McDonald’s profit is up 11% too. Maybe displaced Starbucks grey poupon crowd?

Read an article yesterday on sticky prices, that was somewhat amusing in a self hating way. An abc explanation of why prices don’t come down once they’ve gone up. Hint, charge what the market will bear, and tell them to eat cake if they don’t like it.

Meanwhile, Bernanke is calling for another bailout of sorts. ARRGGH! I think I’m going to pop an artery

  10. Well, we can now update the joke about what’s the difference between a pit bull and a soccer mom… it’s now lipstick and a couple grand in clothes. 😉

I get the Nixon thing with regards to clothes. Especially when it comes to women. What’s frustrating is the fact that the Republicans feel free to criticize other politicians when they play the same game when it comes to appearance. What makes it a bit more frustrating is that Palin’s been going around the US, praising small town, and implying those who live in big cities as being “anti-American… and then goes off and shops at the same places “big city” people do.

Read an article which called for people to abandon Adam Smith and the free market when it came to banks. So, when other industries were falling, these magazines were saying they were obsolete and that if the economy suffered and if people lost jobs… well, that was present pain for future gain. Well, now that the “free market” is troubling their industry, they want a government bail-out. Typical.

  11. That’s interesting, because I actually have thought in the past that that’s the one item of hers I can’t stand. LOL! I like some of the other outfits.

A little young and definitely too short, but she only paid 150.00 for it. You have to imagine what one of those pink nightmares the hapless Cindy McCain is barbie’d up with cost.

  12. We never did find out what it costs for Harper’s makeup lady and who pays for it….I thought the NDP were on this.

I read where Palin’s travelling makeup lady cost over $13,000 in the month of Sept – McCain’s was only $8,000.

Too much makeup – makeup lady. It’s about the blush – over, over done.

  13. If I recall correctly, I believe one of Cindy McCain’s outfits at the RNC was estimated to be worth approx. $90,000. In fairness though, a good part of that was attributable to her diamond earrings.

    Just plain folks, y’all.

  14. You have to imagine what one of those pink nightmares the hapless Cindy McCain is barbie’d up with cost.

I was sure you were Mr. Blackwell’s alter ego. I guess that’s not possible now.

  15. Oops…musn’t comment on less manly things…brings on a bout of gay panic with Mö.

    Mr. Blackwell was gay?

    Say it isn’t so!

  16. “Michelle Obama buys a dress for 150.00 and looks great in it.”

[lecherous grin]and just as good out of it, i’m sure![/lecherous grin]
