McCain is Toast

Yet another nail in McCain’s coffin. This will really hurt in critical swing states like Florida and Virginia (the fact that it’s even in play this year says something) with large military constituencies.

Just listen to the whining and sour grapes from the Right via TownHall:

His rationale for his endorsement is what gives the game away. They’re two of the tropes most beloved by the elites and the media. Coincidence?

I think not. Colin Powell has long been known as someone who cares enormously about the opinion of the elite media — and, frankly, elites of all kinds. Clearly, his reputation has taken a beating in those rarified circles ever since he (along with Joe Biden, incidentally) supported the Iraq war. He’s desperate to regain his supposed “stature,” and this is a quick and easy way to do it.

Obviously, if his support for Barack were predicated on principle alone, Powell would have endorsed him back in July, when Barack was courting him, well before the Democrat Convention — when it would have been huge. Instead, he chose to wait until the media had anointed Obama a certain winner, and the polls are encouraging.

I’m sure there’s plenty of harsher comments trashing Powell and impugning his motives out there in the wingnut-o-sphere.

I agree. The one you’ve highlighted is probably as good as it’s going to get. And that’s TowhHall, so it’ll devolve from there.

I still believe Powell has to answer for this actions leading up to the Iraq invasion…but I live in a fantasy world of justice/karma so what do I know?

  2. Ti-Guy — That certainly diminishes him in my estimation, but it doesn’t seem to have damaged his reputation or the high regard most Americans have for him.

  3. Yep, McCain is as fried as McCain fries usually are when they come out of the oven and are too hard to chew without losing at least several teeth.

Hail, hail, to the next president of the United States of America: Barack Obama! May he serve two full terms and may his administration succeed on every task they have set themselves.

  4. On election night the media will be hyping “Decision 2008 – the Barack Obama landslide.” Four years from now we’ll be calling it Disaster 2008. OBAMA = JIMMY CARTER II

  5. I thought Powell eventually realized how the whole war stuff was manufactured b.s.? That’s why I still respect him anyway. He seemed to slowly extricate himself from it all very quietly, which spoke volumes to me.

At this point, anything but McCain is needed for the USA and the world. Everybody is fairly ticked at American government just now. If they have any hope of surviving and retaining their world domination status, they have to elect Obama. I like the guy although he does seem a little too smooth to me. But still, he has great advisors and that should make up for any shortcomings. I like his calm yet compassionate style. As opposed to what we have, calm scare-the-crap-out-of-you Harper.

  6. For all his policy shortcomings (imho anyway), I’m convinced that Obama is the absolute best that can be expected from the ridiculous American electoral process. I’d like to see what can be done when all three branches are in the hands of the Dems. They’ll have no more excuses for inaction then.

  7. Why always Jimmy Carter my right-winging friends?

    150m sept.

    Unbelievable.

No swift boating for you John.

  8. “when all three branches are in the hands of the Dems.”

house and senate are one branch. chimpco’s damage to the scotus will have to stand.

You awful wingnut. Post your email address and I’ll get Sarah Palin supporters to send your 12 year-old daughter death threats.

  10. but I live in a fantasy world of justice/karma so what do I know?

Hey, if there’s going to be injustice, why not in your favour. 😉

  11. house and senate are one branch. chimpco’s damage to the scotus will have to stand.

Roberts wrote a judgement in the style of Spillane. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

  12. Jimmy Carter II is the brainwashing that the Republicans are trying to imbed in the minds of people……funny to see how many idiots go for it.

I saw a chart a few weeks ago of the economic times since Truman…..even Jimmy Carter did better than the republicans. They were always at their worst when the Republicans were in.

So…where did this notion of Conservative fiscal stuff come from?

  13. That’s a good question. It’s certainly more myth than reality. Endless years of branding “liberal” fiscal policy as nothing but “tax and spend” I guess.

  14. you loonie lefties are living in lala land, american politics are about policies, not selfguilt whites who want to proove they are not racist by electing a black man, look at the ones gathering, all kids, coming for the band, and here is a reality shocker for ya….they dont vote…this redtory has a hardon for Palin, that is all he blogs about, and most of his blogs are one sided, doesnt matter the policies of the one will ruin even our country, the one is black, thats all that counts.

  15. Richa…er…me, McCain has no policies, he a dottering old man on the verge of senility and his running mate is the Christian equivilent of the Taliban or the Iranian mullahs – theocracy in waiting.

Most Americans are smart and decent enough to NOT want 8 more years of missmanagement, war and bigotry.

McCain is toast and you are a drooling idiot.
