Lisa Raitt: Blog Death Watch (Day 2)

Special “Mission Semi-Accomplished” Edition

The IT fun-foilers at Ms. Raitt’s place may seem to have thought they were sucking the life out of our little jest by removing comments entirely from her Potemkin “blog” — which now consists of her “articles” alone (which themselves are rich in comedy). But we’re not entirely done here, for there’s still the matter of removing the now-irksome and totally irrelevant word “blog” (denoted in an all-too-cutesy font) from her propaganda pop-stand.

So the “Death Watch” continues!

Update: Garth has a round-up of blog reactions to his opponent’s hapless blogging efforts. And just to avoid confusion about this, let’s be clear — it’s really a lot more than just a silly “Gotcha!” moment. Well at least for me…

I truly believe that it speaks more broadly to a certain mindset and frame of reference, if you will, when it comes to interacting with constituents and the public at large. The Liberals are no great shakes in this regard either and it’s only just now that my local MP has seen fit to launch a more interactive website. It’s something that I’m quite passionate about however, as I believe, however naïve it may seem, that such efforts are essential to creating a greater sense of engagement between citizens and their elected representatives.

Update2: The laughable irony of the comment noted below (screen-capped from Turner’s blog) should be rather self-evident, but it says something to the demented nature of his critics that are it would seem quite entirely oblivious to the clarion call of cognitive dissonance.

30 Replies to “Lisa Raitt: Blog Death Watch (Day 2)”

  1. I heard Lisa Raitt was going to start letting comments on her blog once http://www.teambc.ca started doing the same, or perhaps when Liberal candidate from Cambridge Gord Zeilstra does the same thing.

If you’re gonna attack you might as well not be hypocritical.

  2. Henrey — I wasn’t aware that Don Bell (Lib-North Van) was running against Ms. Raitt. I was under the impression she was running against Garth Turner. Who, I’ve heard, has a little blog…

    Sheesh! Talk about false equivalencies.

  3. I’ll go on record to say that it’s largely a disaster for a candidate to have a commented blog (and I’m not convinced blogs per se have to have commentary, a lot which is pointless blather by bored, poorly-socialised teenagers under-exposed to information…or so it seems…anyway) unless he or she is willing to do what Garth Turner has done, which has alternately impressed and alienated people and provide fodder for douchey smear-mongers like Steven “Wanke” Janke.

If I were a politician looking to blog, I’d set it up exclusively for my constituents and impose registration of some kind, but that would be outside an election campaign. At this time, blog commentary strikes me as pretty pointless since we all know what the dialogue is going to be like.

  4. I have posted on Garth’s blog several times and my comments have disappeared faster than Garth’s smile when confronted by CPAC’s Peter Van Duesen. Garth used to let dissenting views appear on his blog but he has decided that only people who share his rose-coloured glasses view of Canada can comment.

And Ti-Guy . . . aren’t you late for that meeting with Jack Layton and Marc Emery?

  5. “I’m not convinced blogs per se have to have commentary”

i agree. blog is a portmanteau of “web” and “log”. a log doesn’t demand external commentary.

none of this changes the fact that raitt chickened out from opening comments to her readers. she was for iot before she was against it….

  6. “I heard Lisa Raitt was going to start letting comments on her blog”

you’re a liar, henrey. you never heard any such thing.

  7. “I have posted on Garth’s blog several times and my comments have disappeared”

    that’ll never happen on raitt’,s blog….

Commentary gold! Garth Turner was a fool to delete your doubtless riveting and insightful witticisms and bons mots.

  9. I have posted on Mr. Turners site often. Some of my posts have challenged him and I have been negative towards him on occasion.

He has NEVER removed a post of mine, and has responded to some, always in a professional manner.

    That’s a fact.

  10. Ti-Guy — Well, thanks very much for chiming in with that. So, I guess we’ll all just pack up our tents and go home until the election is over and then… Well, even then there’s really not much point in this wankfest on the part of “poorly socialized” outcasts is there? It’s all just an enormous waste of time and effort.

That’s it then. I’m going back to bed.

  12. Bud – Who ever the hell you are. Garth has allowed more dissenting talk on his blog than any con MP. No con MP in Stevie’s govt has a blog that allows comments, let alone dissenting ones.

    You’re delusional Bud.

  13. Red Tory – I did not say the below:

I really don’t understand what’s going on. I’m being atrributed to saying things that I didn’t.

  14. “Deathwatch”?

In today’s uber-sensitive political climate..I’ll bet you get in trouble for that. Well, maybe not you as you’re just a blogger..but Garth will get some attention now that he has posted your Lisa Raitt Death Watch banner too.

  15. So, I guess we’ll all just pack up our tents and go home until the election is over and then… Well, even then there’s really not much point in this wankfest on the part of “poorly socialized” outcasts is there?

You honestly didn’t take that personally, did you?

  16. “Garth will get some attention now that he has posted your Lisa Raitt Death Watch banner too.”

    there’s my cue!

    (clears throat)

    “fuck.”

  17. “Ooh… a threat.”

Nope, just some commentary on the current state of politics in Canada, Mr. Paranoia. Haha, obviously you’re an NDP supporter! 🙂

  18. Geoffrey — Not quite… KEv is from the left coast of America. Anyway… I took your comment as intended and wondered the same when I saw it on Garth’s blog. Even here posting something like that could be easily misconstrued in our dreadfully “politically correct” climate.

  19. rt – not quite…. ti-guy made the “threat” comment. i, on the other hand, am from the west coast of america.

hey, i didn’t tell you; i’ve moved from daly city to sausalito. sounds fancier than it really is, as i’ve had to leave my spacious, all mod cons one-bedroom apt for a studio with a hot plate. the debt’s been building while the work has slowed. it’s a temporary measure. two years, at the most.

  20. I made the assumption that Geoff may not have been familiar with Daly City.

So… livin’ in the fany-pants willow grove with all the high falutin’ limousine liberals and organic baby-boomers are you now? Well good for you! I hear the weather is much better up there. 😉

  21. Calling it BLOGWATCH, instead of DEATHWATCH, really wouldn’t detract from what you’re doing..but hey, just my $0.02.

One certainly draws the eye more than the other does.. 😉
