Political Parties For Dumb Arses

Bet you didn’t know there were sixteen political parties competing in Canada’s 40th Federal election, did you? Via the folks at the Marijuana Party here they are for your edification…

Amongst the more obscure eligible ones are the Work Less Party and the People’s Political Power Party of Canada. The ineligible parties are even better: The Malevolent Party; The Absolutely Absurd Party (not to be confused with the Canadian Nazi Party); The Party Party; and so on.

Not sure why they decided to run Tom Cochrane’s song through an intercom speaker… go figure. I’d recommend turning the volume off — it’s really annoying.

  1. Not sure why they decided to run Tom Cochrane’s song through an intercom speaker…

No way man. It sounds retro post-industrial and therefore ironic Or even post-ironic.

Or at least it does after you’ve smoked a fatty.

  2. Actually I did know there were 16, and I’m still planning on having a blog post about each one. I still have a few days yet to go before I’d have to start cramming them in. I did it for the 8 registered parties in the Saskatchewan election last year.

  3. What’s of greater concern is that they have to get the requisite sigs to kick start. Ya know, prop rep could be such a gas! Post-WWII Italy on steroids. Weimar Revisited. Is it possible for the HoC to be a more curious circus than it already is?

  4. Speaking of dumb arses…are you catching what’s breaking at The Star: “Green Shift not major platform plank.”

Planet earth calling M. Dion. Just how exactly does that self-administered bullet to the brain feel?

Didn’t he already shoot himself in the head when he ate a hot dog with a knife and fork?

    🙄

  6. No, I’ve been trying to get some work done.

I do know that all of the clever dicks in the “liberal media” want Dion to ditch the Green Shift, focus on the economy and attack, attack, attack…

    Maybe they’re right.

  7. “Didn’t he already shoot himself in the head when he ate a hot dog with a knife and fork?”

Duh, my stupid. Well, hang on. The weenie episode was more a slash to the wrist. This is approaching mid-campaign, major reversal, yada yada. Do we have a signal of PANIC! here? He himself is about to get eaten with knife and fork.

I don’t even know what it is. It could be just The Toronto Star focusing on the minutia of Dion’s campaign because…well, I don’t know what’s happening with them….all their op/ed writers have become uncommonly loopy over the last two years.

The Green Shift is the Liberal’s economic policy, which the media insist the rest of us don’t understand because it’s too much hard werk for them.

I’ve never understood the public’s readiness to accept what the media want them to believe.

  9. It’s not that difficult to understand — quite simple really — but it was poorly explained from the outset with a lot of vacuous platitudes instead of some simple charts, diagrams and examples. The press doesn’t want to understand it. Many of them are fundamentally lazy. It is, as you say, hard work and… oh, god forbid, dull, so it’s easier to just slough it off as being complex and then allow that to be the narrative. “It’s too hard to understand,” they say… Oh, and if Dion tries to take the time to explain it, well then he’s being a “professor” which makes them recoil in disgust.

  10. Stop hiring people from journalism school. I can’t remember who recommended that recently, but it was someone important.

  11. Hey, speaking of which, did you see that our trollish friend “Wilson” was featured by Ormistan on her report last night? It was in regards to Coldcutgate and some comment she made excusing his tastelessness over at the Atheist Conservative’s place.

I just went over there to check it out. Old Wilsie was rather upset. Did the CPC stop paying her?

  13. Sir,

I made the video to which you refer. I am not affiliated with the Marijuana Party or any other for that matter, however, I have sampled their product on occassion.

I made this video to get young voters’ attention so I titled it appropriately. I made it because it’s interesting and funny and hopefully it will spark some interest. If I helped educate you, that’s a bonus. If you didn’t appreciate the sound, I am sorry , I like your reader’s comment about listening after firing up a fatty.

I am amazed at how many parties have been relegated to the junk heap of Canadian Politics in our short history as a nation. That tells me that we are always questioning it, tweaking it and that no machine runs forever in Ottawa, both good things in some respect.

  14. Jack — It was very educational and I appreciated it. I’m sure that anyone who viewed it here learned a thing or two — I know I certainly did. Sorry if my tone was a bit flippant, but you know how it is… Anyway, thanks for your effort!
