Tom Flanagan: Out of the Closet!

Speaking on CBC’s Power & Politics show about the government’s decision to renounce the hapless Kyoto Treaty, Harper mentor and political “scientist” Tom Flanagan admits he believes global warming is a “non-problem” that he attributes possibly to “cosmic rays” and says “it’s time or the deniers to come out of the closet.”

Gee, I didn’t really think there was anything actually holding back the so-called “deniers” given the vehemently obstreperous campaign relentlessly waged in the editorial pages of this country’s conservative media establishment each and every day dismissively trashing the notion of “anthropogenicity” as a contributing factor to demonstrable changes in the environment. Should be interesting to see what happens once all these closeted “deniers” are liberated to speak their minds…

Many on the hard right still believe their opinions are being trampled apon my the so called ‘liberal’ agenda of the mainstream media. I think many on the right still have an inferiorty complex, or maybe thats just to easy for me to say.

  2. Tomm

    That was great.

Evan didn’t know what to say.

It goes to show the power of some tainted science.

Just like a defense attourney raising reasonable doubt, the over stretch by guys like David Suzuki and the data twisting that bubbled out of East Anglia is now rising up to bite the scientists. It is sad really. But, quite frankly I have a lot of sympathy for the “deniers”. They have been treated like pariahs for 5 years. They can now stand and shout their objections. It is a like a remake of “Network”.

  3. Thomas Jefferson

Another reason to get rid of the CBC.

I cannot believe that I bankroll this Evan clown.

Who pays for my free life?

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.

    THOMAS JEFFERSON

  4. TJ: Maybe “cosmic rays” also explain your deranged insanity.

Now that I have been liberated, I can now finally say it:

    “Tom Flanagan does not exist.”

  6. Why would a sentient Canadian be subscribing or, or adhering to anything associated with Thomas Jefferson ? Such affiliation discredits anything that he/she/it could say, or opine.

As for Flanagan, it’s hig-time he was deported.

  7. Thomas Jefferson

“Why would a sentient Canadian be subscribing or, or adhering to anything associated with Thomas Jefferson ?”

Of course. Jefferson hated ideology and hated fascism. Any totalitarian ideology is wrong. Jefferson wanted a Constitution and for everyone to live under the Rule of Law.

You my friend, are a fascist.

Jefferson was a freedom fighter. Canada is a communist state. The government in Canada controls not just your speech and your health care, but your right to self defense. Pretty fascist if you ask me.

Here is a perfect example of the government of fascist Harper.

    *_Ineptocracy_****(in-ep-toc’-ra-cy)
    – a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers*

Canada is managed by people who would die if they lost their government job. People with no skills other than spending other peoples money and living on the dole.

  8. I’m pretty sure that the concept of “fascism” hadn’t been invented during Jefferson’s time. Not that pesky “facts” seem to have any bearing on your delusional rants.

Canada is NOT a “communist state” by any measure, except in the damaged minds of idiots with a middle-school understanding of political science.

If you’re so desirous of packing heat for “self-defense” and medical care that costs you $15,000/yr. (and could still see you go bankrupt in the event of a serious illness) then why not take your sorry little red, white and blue ass down to the Land O’ Liberty you seem to love so much?

  9. Thomas Jefferson

Martin, why the personal attack? Try to keep it civil please.

How is Canada not communist? Speech codes, gun control, education control, state T.V, energy and food controls, government rationed health care.

What is the difference between Canada and China?

Without using Saul Alinsky style attacks, please explain how Canada is not communist.

“I’m pretty sure that the concept of “fascism” hadn’t been invented during Jefferson’s time.”

I never said Thomas Jefferson invented the word.

  10. Thomas Jefferson

I pay 300 a month for my health care which is cheaper than the “free ” health care in Canada.

If you need me to explain why, I only need to point out that I save $3000 a year by registering my vehicles in the USA and not buying Canadian auto insurance. I save 3 grand a year just on insurance alone. So my health care is free in the USA. And I don’t wait for nada.

  11. I realize you’re an anonymous troll on the Internet, but in “real life” do you reside in Canada or the USA?

  12. p.s. I never said you said that Jefferson “invented” the word. Nice try deflecting your errant idiocy.

  13. Thomas Jefferson

I reside in Canada, at the moment. I do make it home to Florida every winter for 2 months.

I have a grandmother in Canada who is 90; hence I’m here.

“p.s. I never said you said that Jefferson “invented” the word. Nice try deflecting your errant idiocy.”

    You did say this however,

“I’m pretty sure that the concept of “fascism” hadn’t been invented during Jefferson’s time. Not that pesky “facts” seem to have any bearing on your delusional rants. “

  14. Your residential status makes no sense. You reside in Canada “at the moment” but “make it back home” during the winter. So, you’re a part-time ghoul bed-sitting your nearly dead 90 year-old granny for most of the year and then bugger off “home” for two months in the depths of winter? Sound more than a little bit weird and creepy to me!

And yes, I did say that about the concept of fascism not having been in existence at the time you falsely claimed that your namesake opposed it. And your point would be… what, exactly?

  15. Is “Thomas Jefferson” the new “Trusty Tory” ?

Or is he “The Trusty Tory”?

He seems to have the same grasp of philosophy, history, and economics as TT …

  16. Thomas Jefferson

“Your residential status makes no sense”

I’m a dual citizen of Canada and the USA. I’m a master plumber. Right now I’m living in Canada for most of the year because my grandmother is 90 and she needs to be taken care of.

When she passes on, I will be moving back home to Florida. I have two homes.

One in the Niagara Region in Ontario and one in Siesta Key, Florida.

What about you, you still in Manitoba?

  17. Thomas Jefferson

I have no idea who Trusty Tory is. However, I know for certain that Martin could easily review the last 4 years of his blog and easily find my posts.

  18. Dual Citizen eh?

One cannot be loyal to the Crown and loyal to a Republic. Either you are stupid, or a traitor. Maybe both.

  19. tofkw

Aeneas, I think any comparison of Jefferson here with the “Trusty Tory” is a real insult to TT. His knowledge of the historical roots of conservatism may be next to nil, and he may be a devout libertarian corporatist who mistakenly considers himself a conservative; but TT at least would understand there is a difference between communism and fascism. Jefferson obviously does not, and furthermore is under the delusion that Canada is both, simultaneously even!

What Jefferson probably contends is the Harper’s Canada is a totalitarian state, which is still a laughable argument. He (along with all the other libertarian nutbars) should be dropped into Somalia to experience what a functional libertarian utopia is really like. Free to carry whatever weaponry he wants, and in unlimited numbers. Free of, as he lists; “Speech codes, gun control, education control, state T.V, energy and food controls, government rationed health care”. And, most importantly, freedom from taxation of any kind. I say we all pool together and purchase the airfare for him.

On a side note, I thought only the lefties called the Harper government “fascist”? I learn something new every day here on this blog. :)

  20. Thomas Jefferson

    “Dual Citizen eh? ”

It’s not my fault. Blame my goofy mother. She’s the Canadian.

  21. Thomas Jefferson

    “communism and fascism”

What’s the difference? I’m not talking semantics either.

They’re both totalitarian ideologies where there is no room for dissent.

In China, they lock you up for the dissent, while here in Canada they fine you and label you an intolerant bigot.

“He (along with all the other libertarian nutbars) should be dropped into Somalia to experience what a functional libertarian utopia is really like”

Your reference to Somalia is absurd. You can reference the early days of America. That would be more appropriate.

Again, what is the difference between Communism and Fascism when it comes to personal liberty and freedom?

  22. tofkw

“Again, what is the difference between Communism and Fascism when it comes to personal liberty and freedom?’

    Very little.
However under communism there are no property rights and no free market. Fascism still operates under a capitalist system, though property and certain industries can be taken over by the central government if they are deemed to be required for the betterment of the state. As I wrote earlier, you probably meant “totalitarian”, as this is the central feature which binds communism and fascism.

Also, China is communist in name only. They ceased being communist back in mid-90’s, specifically when they voted to allow millionaires to join “the party” in the run-up to the Chinese take-over of Hong Kong. The Chinese are now arguably bigger capitalists than the Americans. Oh they are a still a highly centralized authoritarian state, but certainly not communist anymore.

Also, the early US was an agrarian society. Libertarians tend to pine for these good old days, but miss that tiny wrinkle. There in fact was a functional central government in the early years of the US republic, and with it were state and municipal governments, along with a legal system. All this was paid by taxes, though they were minimal due to the agrarian nature of life in the 18th century. Unless we all gave up on technology and learned to live off the land again, present-day Somalia is indeed a more accurate representation of what a modern libertarian society would be like.

  23. Thomas Jefferson

“specifically when they voted to allow millionaires to join “the party””

How can you use that as a standard? The Chinese are hardcore Communist.

The Chinese government controls every aspect of its citizens lives. Every one.

They will literally take a pregnant woman in her 9th month to the hospital to have a partial birth abortion. They have a one child policy.

I don’t understand anything you said.

The USA in the early days was perfect. A small federal government constrained by states rights. Now its the exact opposite.

Obama should never be in the news. The USA Constitution made states the most powerful sovereign. Not the Federal Government.

The problem with Somali is the people living there. Not the so called “freedom” they enjoy. And you know that.

  24. Oh God, please go fix a tap or toilet, or something …

The reactionary tory part of me wishes that the lower-classes would stick to their vocation, rather than wandering into mine. Especially, Americans – who understand very little of anything.

  25. “The problem with Somali is the people living there.”

Now we have the TJ the Master Plumber espousing his racial views … bu-bye Jim Crow.

  26. Craig Chamberlain

“I don’t understand anything you said.”

    Bingo.

  27. tofkw

“I don’t understand anything you said.”

As Craig wrote that’s you’re entire problem right there. Go read a few books and learn something. Spouting off about subjects you clearly have no concept of is what makes you come across as a common garden-variety loon.

“The problem with Somali is the people living there.”

Because all those natives in Africa are beneath us, huh? Racist and ignorant, a stellar example of the Tea-Bagger contingent within the US Republican Party.

  28. Craig Chamberlain

(tofkw, we’re being subjected to someone’s attention seeking behaviour i.e. say something, anything, to get a reaction; I trust he is being affirmed in all of this.)

RT, how much are you getting paid to provide this forum?

    Thought so.

  35. Craig: LOL. As you suspected, absolutely nothing.

Moreover, on days like this I sometimes regret that I’m such a hardliner on the issue of free speech. Not sure what the problem (aside from an apparent lack of meds) with this latest Swastika-happy loon is.

  36. Thomas Jefferson

“Also, China is communist in name only. This above is nothing short of false. Do you really need me to pick it apart.

    China is not Communist.

Here is the Wikiipedia definition of the Party.

“The Communist Party of China (CPC), also known as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), is the founding and ruling political party of the People’s Republic of China (PRC)”

So they are NOT communist, but rather more capitalist than the USA?

No religious freedom in China. No free speech in China. No right to self defense in China. Forced abortion in China. Forced labor in China. No right to a fair trial in China. Forced “re-education” camps.

    Need more?

I don’t need to read a book to know how hardcore communist China is.

For you to try to argue otherwise shows you have sympathy with their ideology. And that is worrisome.

  37. Chris

Somalia is about the worst representation of a libertarian state out there. It’s like comparing any non-libertarian society to North Korea. Libertarianism involves a very limited government– not no government. The government would serve to protect the citizens and their property from people who would wish to do them harm. Neither of those services are provided by the Somali government. Somalia is far more representative of anarchy than libertarianism. And no, they are not the same thing.
