Hardball: Bill Maher

A funny discussion about the outnumbered progressives that are “marbled in” to the so-called red states of the South.

Towards the end of the interview Maher makes an interesting point about Governor Mark Sanford relative to other cheating politicians that are “just having [sleazy] sex with the easiest roadkill they can find.”

  • Very amusing.. it’s good to see Bill Maher post-Obama election. He’s a bright and amusing comedian, with some good insight, but, prior to the election, there was almost a frantic, fearful angst to his humour, as if he might just pull a Hunter S. Thompson if McCain got elected.

Good to see him a little more himself.. though I think her perhaps misses the point a little bit in suggesting that ony the progressives are coming out of the wood-work.. as there are, I’m sure, many Conservatives who aren’t so insecure that they can’t appreciate his humour. I would go see him in a minute.

Intersting point relative to the sex scandals though.. and interesting that it does have a non-partisan flavor to it.. though it looks so much better on bible-thumping Republican theocrats for sure.. but it does point, perhaps, to a more insidious issue, which is the extent to which politics may attract the truly ammoral, those who are in it “for what they can get” and not for the public interest.. and that, I’m sure, crosses borders into our fair Country.

I’m sure this factor is, in no small measure, a part of the illness which is power-hunger and it’s close sibling, hyper-partisanship.

Perhaps if we conscripted our government representatives as opposed to voting for them…

  • Eeeeugh… Chris Matthews’ smugitude makes me want to hurl

  • There is a very simple reason why disgraced politicians should immediately resign no matter what the offense, or the talent they may possess which could benefit society: in this partisan, acrimonious, political environment in which we currently live, and at this point in time in our nation’s evolution, any elected official needs as much support from his constituency which he or she can gather. After the offense, that support base will undoubtedly diminish, and render their service less effective.

As for resignation, you might check out this.

  • That was a very amusing post. Thanks. :)
