USA put out a Battle of Falulljah video game, glorifying the killing of an entire city of males. Short the fuck out of USD and leave Obama’s legacy as the Banker Prez.
Hey, he did get left a gigantic freakin mess here. It might take more than 6 months.
But yes, Maher is right in that he has to use the power he has right now to get more of the unpalatable things done. I mean, I know so many Americans with supposedly great health care plans who are just getting screwed right now. They are constantly being denied the right to even see a Doctor much less get a procedure. And it’s all the private insurers. He has to get rid of them.
NY Times has a great couple of articles this week, a column by Kristof and an editorial on this whole debate.
I mean, hello, when you have proof that spending more doesn’t mean better health care, and sometimes means much worse health care, then wtf? Why is he going so slow?
I like Raleigh; isn’t it part of the research triangle? Redeeming part of South. If I was a programmer I’d write a “Non-escape from WTC” game. The funny thing is Obama could’ve paid for his entire progressive agenda with the money he gave to banks. If CDSs triggered Canada banking collapse I’d expect the government to bolster the in-the-black players and permit foreign invasion.
Iggy could really play this out by Twittering his page by page analysis.
The bush years will take a quarter century to fix, if then. Gov. and glaciers move at about the same pace except global warming hasn’t increased the speed of gov.
what do you call lifting chimpco’s restrictions on fed funding for stem cell research and abortion, ending torture, closing gitmo detention, expanding healthcare coverage for children, easing travel to cuba, and more? he’s not ideal, but “ideal” is a pipe dream. i’ll take “better by incriments” over chimpco’s regressions any day.
The two big changes are better foreign policy and a transfer of wealth from oil to finance. But it is clear many of the same business interests that helped steamroll Obama over Hillary have gotten paid. Insurance deposits prevents a run…
P.Krugman and everyone else says it is necessary but not sufficient for recovery to give $4T to bank execs, bond and stockholders. Ummm, no (an easy decision every literate casual labourer I’ve worked with could make). The Soviets did that with Party Officials.
That $4T would buy 3M wind turbines, I’d guess stimulate employment (and inflation beyond) to bubble levels. That is 4 Terawatts of generation capacity, about 1.3TW actual, global production now is 15TW (20%-33% is where wind maxes out without banking)…groundwork for electric cars and power hungry apps like desalination would be laid out.
Or you could store enough grain to survive any disaster save an Ice Age. I’m not sure how much the OX40:Ig fusion protein that stops cytokine storm costs for a global supply…I’m not sure how much it costs to get us off industrial farming and on fake meats….I know Obama gave a big slice of his power to the whims of bankers; just give $12000 check to every American instead (would be 3x more money then I’ve ever seen).
Part of the problem is that Americans elected a president but wanted a benevolent dictator.
The American system is designed to make enacting any agenda as difficult as possible. There are two equal houses of Congress where very different versions of the same legislation are often passed then harmonized, and no party discipline so every vote is a conscience vote. Add to that, the fact that many Congressional Democrats are fiscal and social conservatives from the Midwest and South and that the Democratic Party has never been a unified or disciplined party. Plus, the Republicans can still filibuster in the Senate. Also, when you can attach completely unrelated amendments like ones that expand gun rights to Hate Crime legislation you know it’s going to be difficult for anything proposed to get through.
The system itself is broken. Even if Obama was the perfect president with the purest of motives (and I am not saying that he is), it would be difficult to make real progress. There are just too many competing interests.
I keep having to remind my gay friends of this when they are angry that Obama hasn’t repealed the “Don’t ask don’t tell”, “Defence of Marriage Act” and passed the Employer non-discrimination act. The problem is that many Americans think they have the purest and most perfect of democracies and can’t see how sick the system itself really is.
…they need Chretien (and P.Martin at finance)right now. Obviously their poor liked H.Clinton. I have to wonder if this (assuming giving $4T to bankers raises future unemployment) will be a National Security threat for us in the future ala Juarez City (drug war and unemployment).
Sorry for thread hijack Red but I’m learning alot about politics recently and I’m getting banned lots elsewhere.
I actually must thank the Aspers (now saddling Winnipeg with bloated cost Stadium and Human Rights Museum) and CTV for their harmlessly failed attempt at fixing a Majority. I know a conspiracy effortlessly now. At some point last week I saw a media blurb that taxes can’t be raised because of Republicans. WTF? This in concert with GOPs smoke-and-mirrors “hatred” of how Lefty Obama is…you put them together and it is a co-ordinated fix to reward USA finance. Harper almost got it right last fall when he noted banks globally were being subsidized overboard. The part he missed was that USA is using low interest rates to transfer as much of the world’s wealth to USD in the only quick way politically possible: to “save” banks. The next phase of analysis is just how far this can go on until the world’s investors catch on. I suggest investing on CDI leading denominations hoping that it would buttress the high quality-of-living model they’ve provided to the world; nations are free to emulate or ridicule Sweden as they see fit.
Bill Maher didn’t pull any punches.
I think perhaps the honeymoon is on the wane.

Let’s face it, Obama has had six months to clean up the 8-year old mess left by the Decider Guy.

Yeah, do you think he’ll start anytime soon?

The slide into fascism-lite is old news. The only ones who are being caught off guard are the ones who bought the change pitch. Change indeed!
Novacadia making it to the pages of the WSJ, now that’s news! Divided We Stand

Peggy Noonan’s got a new column out? Is she just drunk this time or is she on pills?
Bill finished off strong there.

RT,
Gotta give you a h/t for trolling for better than average posters.
This “toujourdans” is smart!
and…I like the cut of his jib.
I think I said that before, but with advanced dementia, I think I’m allowed to repeat myself.
…I’ll go ask the nurse…
Toujourdans,
The American system was already broke, (where is Thomas Jefferson when you need him?) but then ol’Dubya made sure by taking a baseball bat to it.
