There are more Canadian, Mexican and European drivers in NASCAR now than ever before, and European speedways have begun to pursue the opportunity to host NASCAR races — although I don’t fully expect NASCAR to bite.
NASCAR is the perfect manifestation of late capitalism. There’s absolutely nothing much to it as a sport, and you get to sit on your arse and consume and pretend you’re having “quality time.” A huge expenditure of resources for absolutely nothing in return.
When some maniacal teenager is able to bring his car to a screeching halt rather than run you ever, tell yourself that NASCAR doesn’t offer anything but meaningless spectacle.
When some maniacal teenager is able to bring his car to a screeching halt rather than run you ever, tell yourself that NASCAR doesn’t offer anything but meaningless spectacle.
The only time that’s ever come close to happening to me is when the teenager doesn’t yield the right of way or drives right up unto the sidewalk.
If your going to watch car racing, NASCAR has become the one to watch.
It use to have competition with Indy Cars, and F1, but they are self destructing leaving the good’ole boys to rake in the audience share and the money.
It’s bigger than the Pope. At least there is more trinkets and souvenirs being hocked.

I guess they don’t have driving schools in Patrick Ross’ twisted world of Hillbillyism.

Michael’s favorite sport (or one of)…

That’s fine, as long as they don’t sponsor a car, because that would be kind of dumb.

Meh. That’s about as silly as plastering your party logo on a frisbee — which has been done.
But here’s the amusing thing:
Crashes like Carl Edwards’ this weekend are fairly out-of-the-ordinary in NASCAR. They aren’t normally that spectacular.
Those kinds of crashes are much more routine in open-wheel racing like Indy, F1 or Champ.
So if people only watch for the crashes, why aren’t more people watching Indy, F1 or Champ?
Maybe there’s more to this.

Give those announcers British accents, and suddenly, it’ll be a gentleman’s sport.

It’s slowly becoming more international.

Tell yourself that the next time you’re driving to the grocery store.

I walk to the grocery store. It’s just across the street.

OK, then, I’ll put it to you this way:
When some maniacal teenager is able to bring his car to a screeching halt rather than run you ever, tell yourself that NASCAR doesn’t offer anything but meaningless spectacle.

I’ll gladly attribute *that* to NASCAR.

Nascar has about 75 million supporters, Roman Catholicism has over 1 billion followers. Math isn’t your strong point Tomm or is it research? :}
