Mrs. Bachmann for 5 Minutes…

“We would do well to humble ourselves before Almighty God!”

Amazing what goes on in the U.S. Congress some days…

Good grief, what a nutjob.

In fact, Obama’s staff didn’t request that Georgetown “cover up an image of Christ on the cross before Obama would give his speech” as Bachmann claimed. In fact, that’s a deceitful lie. Here’s what a spokesman for the university said: “The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they’ve done for other policy speeches… Frankly, the pipe and drape wasn’t high enough by itself to fully cover the IHS [the Jesuit monogram for Christ] and cross above the GU seal and it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context.”

Funny, but I seem to recall from Sunday school that the Lord couldn’t abide “a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” So, perhaps in the run-up to the “National Day of Prayer” (Thursday, May 7th) the pious representative from Minnesota should remember that God isn’t too keen on individuals with “an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations” or she may want to consider that Jesus warned “…all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Things to keep in mind maybe. You know… if you believe in that sort of thing.

p.s. Of course, if there’s any moron on planet Earth that could possibly be more hopeless than Bachmann, it’s this guy — a man who never encountered an insane right-wing talking point from Matt Drudge he didn’t eagerly chow down on.

    How gerrymandered is her district?

  2. I always thought Minnesota was rather liberal by midwestern standards. What rock did she crawl out from under?

I always thought Minnesota was rather liberal by midwestern standards.

The split between urban and exurban/rural predominates in every corner of the USA now. I’ve long considered Minnesota, New York and Vermont “liberal” but it’s still astonishing the number of retrogrades you meet from those places.

I’m sure Michelle Bachmann fully represents the sensibilities of the people who elected her.

    I await counter-coulter’s umbrage-taking… ;)

Is this how the word “douchebag” entered contemporary lexicon? When does she next have to defend her seat? I, too, have found Minnesota to be decidedly moderate.

  6. Ti-Guy

Still, the state went 44% for McCain in the last election. That’s still a lot of retrogrades.

  7. Still, at least Bachmann seems to consider the Stars and Stripes somewhat less holy than the cross–a rather progressive view for a neoconderthal to hold. There may be hope for her.

Perhaps some day she’ll learn that actually holding and practicing fundamental ethics is more holy than idolising graven images…

She’ll never learn that. She’s the type who lies cheerfully.

  9. “You know… if you believe in that sort of thing.”

she demonstrates what i believe most religious people feel; that she doesn’t necessarily believe in that sort of thing, but that she believes in believing in that sort of thing. not as fine a line of distinction as it may first appear.

that she doesn’t necessarily believe in that sort of thing, but that she believes in believing in that sort of thing.

I agree. It’s not even that uncommon, it’s just that with people like her, the lengths to which they’ll ignore evidence and lie (by omission or commission) is what’s truly remarkable.

I know people who are against abortion; who believe that life begins at conception who nonetheless reject the pseudo-science that has been trotted out of late to make the case against abortion. They believe in the rightness of the faith that tells them these things about life (which is their away of eliminating doubt and moral ambiguity), but nonetheless consider lying to support these beliefs unacceptable.

  11. Why is it that these flakes need a symbol or picture of Christ in every corner of their space? Is it that easy for them to forget him?

  12. counter-coulter

Yay Michelle! Keep making us proud! Maybe you and Coleman can get together and produce the antichrist that’ll help bring about the end times?

There’s going to be a lot more of this sort of thing as the A.G.’s investigators begin to close in on Cheney & Company.
