Whatever Happened to Dan Quayle?

Well, we were asked…

For the past decade, Quayle has been the Chairman of Cerberus Global Investments and as such, is “actively involved in new business sourcing and marketing for Cerberus in North America, Asia and Europe.” Yes, this is the hapless private equity firm that bought Chrysler from Daimler-Benz for some harebrained reason several years ago and is now seeking multi-billion bailouts from the U.S. and Canadian governments to keep it on life-support. Quayle is also a director of the Japanese Aozora Bank that was acquired by Cerberus in 2003 but is now suffering massive reverses on sub-prime mortgages, GMAC share purchases that tanked abysmally and an ill-considered investment in Bernie Madoff’s dimwitted Ponzi-scheme.

Warren Buffet was a friend of mine. And you sir, are no Warren Buffet.

  2. Indeed.

Mr. “Potato-Head” has fulfilled all of our expectations!

Former Treasury Secretary and Chairman Chairman of Cerberus Capital ( as distinct from Chairman of Cerberus Global Investments ), John Snow, ain’t looking too bright these days either, is he?

  4. I don’t know that he ever looked all that bright…

I was able to report this week that the US is doing its part to contribute to the global expansion with real GDP rising 4.4 percent last year, first quarter growth this year at 3.5%, and an outlook for continued robust expansion. Our strong growth is also working to boost revenues and the fiscal deficit is contracting sharply. Private forecasters now project that the U.S. deficit this year will come in under 3% of GDP — even on a consolidated basis that includes federal, state and local fiscal budgets. I am confident that in the coming years, we will bring our federal deficit much further down to below 2 % of GDP. Reducing our fiscal deficit, along with efforts to increase domestic savings, are integral to limiting US current account imbalances. The best contribution the United States can make to the world economy is to keep our house in order, to sustain strong growth, and to continue to maintain our openness and the flexibility of our markets. — John Snow (2005)

    Oops!

Under its New Page subsidiary Cerberus also purchased a lot of poorly performing paper makers. With newspapers going bankrupt (both Philadelphia papers today) and cutting staff (the Halifax Chronicle-Herald is axing 1/5 of its reporters) that’s a business one wants to be in.

  6. False Prophet

OK, I was just a kid when Quayle was VP. As I grew up, I assumed Quayle’s idiocy had been exaggerated for comic or political effect. But these clips show without a doubt that the man is a complete buffoon. He makes Sarah Palin look like a Rhodes Scholar!

  7. Same here. Even dumber than I remembered.

Ah ha! The video is most revealing.

W was merely an understudy to that Great Master of Malapropisms, Dan Quayle….. which no doubt is why Bush Sr. made Danny-Boy his trusted Veep in the first place.

And note, it’s ONLY a minute and a half, and not even a highlight reel of his worst expressions of idiotude. ;)

Hmm, imagine him on a ticket with Palin, now THAT would be a sight to see….

    It was a rhetorical question!

But…Good Lord….he still exists, and interacts with normal society.
