Wake up America? How ’bout Wake Up Canada?

I wasn’t aware that we were supplying money and arms to Israel…
It’s kind of an apples and oranges comparison.

How dare the Palestinians elect Hamas! Luckily, here in Canada we have foreign policy wise-man Stephen Harper as leader. He was the first leader morally clairvoyant enough to cut off aid.
In doing so he achieved a moral clarity rarely witnessed from an asthma sufferer. No more wheezing around issues for Canada. Our clarity is as unyielding as his hair. Our resolve is firmer than a Lego side part.
Only wussies like doctors, or Israeli journalists, or that American General who did all that stuff in Iraq, Preteaus, bother to consider the other side, ever. Imagine trying to peel Quebec nationalists away from separatism? Hello! Did someone say Neville Chamberlain? What’s next, vacationing with Mussolini? Peace in our time. To think someone made of such rigid stuff would consider appeasement, anywhere, regarding anything. Ridiculous. Harpy cannot even spell appeasment. They hate Canada!! Like totally. Oh wait …
Quebec is a nation.
The difference between Harpy’s rigid stance vis-à-vis Israel and Gaza and his cowardly, unnecessary appeasement of Quebec nationalists is that, in Canada, in regards to the Middle East, we don’t have to worry about the consequences of our moral clarity. Israelis do. And Palestinians. We can say whatever we want. That means we can be as rhetorically tough on the Palestinians as Ezra Levant wants. Suckers!!! We cut you off. We cut you off. Nah, nah, nah, nah!!
I mean: how dare they vote for a party we disapprove of! It’s not like we forced the Palestinians to vote. Oh wait, we did. Or the US did. Whatever. Their vote is meant to validate our choice. Full stop.
Who cares that at the time many people predicted cutting off Gaza would encourage an increase in radicalism. The main thing is to ask yourself: what would Mark Styen do? (Probably write something 100% the opposite of reality, like Iraq is safer than Surrey England).
The fact Hamas has been daily terrorizing Israelis by firing rockets (illegal under international law, as are Israel’s West Bank settlements or its continued, collective punishment of those living in the Gaza strip, just to make things morally unclear) means Harpy was right to be morally clear about Hamas. It’s not often an issue presents itself where you can take a stand of so little immediate consequence for yourself. Next I hear Harpy is going to condemn Robert Mugabe, after that he’s going to take a courageous stand against parents who refuse to read their kids bedtime stories. Next up: a vicious, rabble-rousing speech against cancer.
Who cares that Canada’s policy has been an abject failure. Seriously. The important thing is Canada has finally rid itself of the cowardly Liberal relativism which has plagued us for far too long. We used to work hard to alleviate the conflict there! What fools we were! Trying to maintain as neutral a manner as possible (often difficult, but that just makes us more foolhardy – moral clarity being so much easier) is stupid.
I mean, just because we live in far-away Canada and have the luxury of not having to take a direct position, who did we think we were to try and steer the Palestinians away from the nihilism that Hamas promotes?
Canada used to train Palestinian judges. Are we idiots? That’s not emotionally satisfying. Now, thanks to Harpy, we can sit back, put our feet up, pop open a beer and watch it all on CNN, basking in our moral clarity.
And besides. Peter Kent got elected.
Canada is the awesomeist!

Great screed. Bravo!

Thanks. After writing that I’m going to always ask myself what Mark Steyn would do.
