Tripps to Nowhere

Should we be in the least surprised that Bristol (named after a sheet of cardboard) has given birth to a bastard named “Tripp” sired by “Levi” (yes, rather unimaginatively named after the venerable brand of jeans, although the spelling is off) and whose uncles are “Trig” and “Track”?

  2. You know Red, I have been thinking about Sarah Palin a lot lately – but NOT in that way, thank-you very much!

With the triumph of mass man and his quest to fulfill his appetite at the expense of the traditional meritocracy and a sense of excellence over the last 45 years, Mrs. Palin and her Clan become the perfect symbol of this new “gilded” age.

The Rednecks rule now. Whether they rule from the right or the left is immaterial; they just rule.

Whether you term it “the common man”, of “the average Canadian”, of “the ordinary people” the fact remains that we now live in an age of not “mob rule”, then at least “mob influence.”

The educated and the good have opted out of public service as they cannot appeal to the mob. The mob only sees that they “think they are better than us” and then demands more delegational-style representation.

The rich and ultra-wealthy have been so co-opted by the modern nouveau-riche ethic that they don’t give back anymore; they just head down to St. Maarten and do lines of coke off the bellies of their friends’ trophy wives.

This is the end of liberal-democracy as we have known it. What will be interesting is to see where it will lead. Neo-Fascism or Socialism?

  3. RG — I think we can be quite sympathetic in our contempt at times. ;)

  4. ATY — If you have some time to spare, give a listen to the story linked to on the previous thread about the “Giant Pool of Money” — it’s a completely fascinating yarn, not only highly instructive as to the mechanics of “what went wrong” with the sub-prime implosion, but also quite illustrative of some of your most deeply held conceits about the dull-witted, blindly avaricious nature of Capitalism run amok.

As for “the mob” that’s now supposedly ruling things… I seem to have as little in common with them as I do with their “rich and ultra-wealthy” opposite numbers — a situation that leaves me completely alienated and disenfranchised in your scheme of things.

  5. What’s the next going to be – Truck, Trap, True?

Now, did Grandma Sarah pick the name? Would seem so.

  6. “a situation that leaves me completely alienated and disenfranchised in your scheme of things.”

That’s why I see us as kindred spirits in a manner of speaking …

Levi is also a biblical name, you know the son of Jacob responsible for priestly duties.

Just thought I’d throw that poorly named family some kind of a bone.

On the discussion of the mob and democracy… part of the problem is that people are called to vote in their best interests, or at least to take the most limited view of what is in their best interests are. When elections come around, politicians are quite often reduced to being sales people, trying to get people the best deals, instead of dealing with real problems, especially ones that might call upon a bit of sacrifice on our part.

I mean “part of the problem is that people are called to vote in their best interests, or at least to take the most limited view of what their best interests are.” :P
