100 Words

This curious addendum to an article in the Ottawa Citizen about petty infighting over the now infamously “botched” video response Dion made to PM Stephen Harper’s five minute address to the nation has an inadvertently poetic quality to it. A 100 words (and it is precisely that — I checked) describing Dion and the Coalition:

Beset with flaws.
Like a teenager proudly recording his first YouTube vlog.
A creepy coalition godfathered by backroom schemers.
Response looked like a hostage video.
Slap in the face to voters in the recent election.
In a world of hurt.
Where is Michael Ignatieff?
Coalition is toast.
Hard to believe Dion’s reputation could sink any lower.
Fraying.
Unwieldy.
A coalition if necessary, but not necessarily a coalition.
Disaster.
Pathetic.
An expression of enormous optimism. (Substitute the word “delusion” for optimism.)
Talk about a collision, I mean collusion, oops, coalition.
No time for a Coalition of Losers.
Stumblebum.
Dear Santa: Help!

Regarding that last point, it’s now understood to be a “foregone conclusion” that Dion will be forced to quit before Christmas.

  1. And – where is LeBlanc? You never see or hear from him? He is a candidate afterall. Don’t you think he should be saying something?

And, even if the kid did a poor job – didn’t Dion approve it? Shouldn’t he take responsibility?

This video-gate thing is just a search for scapegoats.

The LPC has to be seen to have a reason and they would prefer “this” to Dion signing his name to the Coalition documents, or the other stupid things he has done.

The LPC is hunting around for a recent excuse the public/media will buy.

But the video was pretty crappy. I’m sure this dog will hunt for the LPC.

I think it’s a real distraction Like the “Dean Scream.”

We are a deeply unserious people.

If Dion, goes, I want Rae…not that morally bankrupt and vain intellectual, Michael Ignatieff. I fear the Liberals are going to go for style over substance however and although I don’t want to predict anything (some people do exceed expectations depending on the circumstances) I have this gut feeling Iggy’s just not up the job.

    ….besides, I think he’s hideous looking.

The poor production quality of the video would not be such a big deal if it wasn’t for Mr. Dion’s god awfull delivery of the message. The substance was great, but his inability to articulate it effectively only galvanized Canadians’ image of Dion. Those are harsh, and I believe unfair, comments, about Mr. Ignatieff. He is style over substance? The man is an internationally respected thinker. He has more substance to back him up than most people who have entered in public life. He’s just not up to the job? Where have I heard that line before? I remember, it was the Conservative propaganda machine. Hideous looking? Should we take that as a comment based on substance or style?

I’ve shat better ideas than “Empire Lite,” and his self-serving mea culpa just made things worse. I’ve always maintained that a person is as essentially ridiculous as the most irrational thing he or she has ever believed. I just couldn’t get over Iggy believing, after all those years in the US, that that country could ever export the values of democracy and free markets when those two things don’t even exist in the US, and haven’t for quite some time.

Should we take that as a comment based on substance or style?

Yup, but in my years-long criticism of Micheal Ignatieff, it’s always been about substance. So I’m allowed that one little jab. Besides, who cares anyway? All of our politicians are hideous. Legislature after legislature of ugly, ugly parliamentarians.

  7. Sad but true for the most part.

CTV is suggesting that he has dropped out.

  9. sharonapple88

Damn, I was about to jump onto his bandwagon.

  10. sharonapple88

    :) (To the above comment.)

  11. Moebius

    He had a bandwagon?

    Yep, the Wallace Hartley Orchestra.

    He had a bandwagon?

It was small. I believe the Calgary Grit was on it….

Funny he’s pulling out right after Maclean ran a profile on him.
