Pointless in the Great White North

Seriously. Get a life.

As Scott Tribe points out, the Liberals are purchasing carbon offsets to neutralize the CO2 emissions associated with their campaign travel from CarbonZero, a Canadian company with offices in Toronto and Calgary.

Chalk up yet another swing and a miss by the “Blogging Tories” super-sleuth.

Update: Speaking of wankers, you have to be somewhat astounded at the jaw-dropping temerity of doltish Tory supporter “Hunter” who says this with a straight face: “Seriously, when all the parties admit they are going to go negative, it shows how desperate they are…”

Apparently she’s oblivious to the relentless campaign of negative attack ads that have been directed against Stéphane Dion by the Conservative Party ever since he became leader, in addition to the negative radio, print and TV commercials the party has run off and on over the last year or so attacking the Liberals, as well as the highly negative “10-percenters” that have been flooding homes across the country over the summer.

For some reason, I don’t imagine this “Hunter” person ever thought for a moment all that negative propaganda churned out by the Conservatives was somehow an indication of their desperation. Doublethink much?

Update2: Janke plunges down the rabbit hole of carbon offsets, specifically the firm that the Liberals have contracted to look after this matter for them and exposes great perfidy, outrageous fraud, and generally nefarious doings! Or at least that seems to be the gist of his dubious, innuendo-laden peregrinations. To be honest, I usually find Janke’s pedantic sleuthing to be profoundly boring — it’s almost always a frustrating experience with no actual payoff at the end of the day. It should be interesting in this case to see how the folks at CarbonZero respond to the muckraking allegations being leveled by Detective Steve.

    ………………

Red, this kind of bogus disgust by highlighting only one half of the glass is beneath you, i.e. you omit the stringent bully twaddle, etc. dished out by Libs. The bottom line is that the Cons are about to put the boots to the Libs. This is the game; the objective is to win. Personally, I find the nauseous panic coming out of the Lib camp to be most amusing, especially as applies to those self-righteous Lib posters who have claimed that Canadians would never give the Cons a majority. After all, at heart the Canadian electorate is manifested by such a progressive political culture, goes the latter argument. That Canadian political culture is colonial in its essence, privy to any political ideology that can tap it effectively (guilt tends to go a long way), remains the blind spot.

  • SR — Yes, I do take biased, partisan pot-shots at the opposing side. I’ve never pretended to be an objective or impartial observer and I’ll confess that my stance is quite staunchly anti-Harper more than it could be said to be strongly pro-Liberal. And yes, I know there’s a strong element of tribalism in that and I’m aware that parties don’t make any difference, that they’re all corrupt, self-serving, hypocritical, yadda, yadda, yadda.

I’m not quite sure where you want me to take the Liberals to task on this particular point. When they start wheeling out their campaign twaddle, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to be critical of their efforts as well.

  • I wonder if the Cons are going to try to pull their in-and-0out fraud again this time? And why can’t all these ads running up to the election be considered election ads as well if they run during the campaign.

  • RT,

    Nice mid-direction.

The point is obviously symbolic. The LPC campaign starts and ends with a burning desire to save the planet and ensure Canada is doing its part. The honesty Dion exhibits on this topic is truly remarkable.

For them to “do a Suzuki” blows away their credibility on the one issue they must be seen as honest and earnest in one quick easily digested media sound bite.

Sorry, this was a real bone headed move.

Is Carbon Zero owned by Maurice Strong?

  • The Carbon Shift…..has the approval of Suzuki, TD Bank economists, Conference Board of Canada and a similar plan has been very successful in other countries….still want to take Harper’s word for it?

Hey, don’t let some facts get in the way of a short sound bite that Con supporters fall for – say the word tax and they panic – but don’t bother to look into it. What a way to make a decision.

  • carbon offsets, talking about pointless….Libs don’t really believe in that nonsense do they ?

  • Some of these offset schemes do have a reputation for being a bit dodgy, don’t they?

  • Tomm — Seems like a non-issue to me, but it does have some symbolic significance, I suppose. I don’t imagine the Conservatives or NDP will be all that much different in the way they handle the matter, or that the eventual result will make the slightest bit of difference.

By the way, don’t you find it funny to be arguing about the “gas emissions” that the various parties will be making while they’re on the campaign trail? I think that’s quite amusing.

  • Red, re “By the way, don’t you find it funny to be arguing about the “gas emissions” that the various parties will be making while they’re on the campaign trail? I think that’s quite amusing.”

    …………….

I thought you would’ve put up a post about the 27-year old beater that the Libs have leased from Air Inuit for their campaign. Ah yes, the Lib election coffers are thin. Let’s just shit all over our principles for everyone to see.

  • [...] regards to my earlier blogpost on Steve Janke trying to be a super-sleuth, I noticed courtesy of Red Tory’s site that Janke has done a followup to his blogpost.  It appears he’s responded to CarbonZero [...]

  • Janke is just taking old information, the political connections of just one of its officers (the CEO is a Liberal Party member, the President is NDP Party member…), ignores scores of information in the sources he cites which contradict him, and just goes on smearing.

    In other words, typical Janke.

Meanwhile, the Tories have the worst environmental platform of the parties, with an F+ from the Sierra Club. (Yes, I know, there’s a “plus”?). The Liberals got 2nd, ahead of the NDP and Bloc, and the Greens got first.

  • Good thing Warren’s on your side .

  • Meanwhile, the Tories have the worst environmental platform of the parties, with an F+ from the Sierra Club. (Yes, I know, there’s a “plus”?).

Well, they need to feel some sense of promise, that there is some potential in what they’re doing, or else they might quit altogether.

  • Sharonapple88,

Before you quote fom the Sierra Club ask yourself if they have a political agenda. Ask who else they affiliate with and what is their motivation in doing what they do.

Some groups exist to make a difference and improve the environment. Some groups exist because they are politically motivated and the environment is a vehicle. And some groups have entirely lost real focus and lurch from one environemntal issue to the next as a means to maintain fund raising to an appropriate level, i.e. “feed the bear”.

Ask yourself the nature of the group and their level of credibility in their field (e.g. University and published researchers).
